Rebuilding mode - your lineup for next year

k, if we traded lots of our talent away for draft picks and some decent Dmen, this is the lineup we can have next year:

Ryder Plekanec Kostistsyn
Perezhogin Higgins Latendresse
Begin Bulis Murray
Ferland Chipchura Downey

D:
1. Captain Rivet. need to be captain after that fight.
2. Markov
3. Bouillon
4. Redden or Chara as a UFA??????????
5. a blackhawk D from a trade
6. a flame D from a trade
no Souray, Komisarek, Streit, Dandenault

G: Huet and Danis

I know we won't make the playoffs with this roster, but it will be a rebuilding year.

Respond with your rebuilding line-up. It's time for off-season talk because we are going nowhere this year.

Great idea, this way we can lose every game by 5 or 6 goals instead of just two unlucky ones in a row.

All I know is that the following players are keepers in my opinion:

Koivu
Kovalev
Ryder
Kostitsyn
Bulis
Plekanec
Higgins
Murray
Begin
Perezhogin

I can live without Zednik, Ribeiro (must go) Sundstrom and Bonk

On D, the keepers are:

Markov
Souray
Rivet
Komisarek

I can live without Dandenault and one of Bouillon or Streit

Theodore must go.

So the list of guys to move is as follows:

Ribeiro
Bonk
Zednik
Dandenault
Streit or Bouillon
Theodore

R.Smyth - Sakic - Spezza
Heatley - Ovechkin - Kovalev
Forsberg - Koivu - Selanne
Staal - Crosby - Kostsitsyn

Niedermeyer - Markov
Blake - Pronger
Jovanovski - Bobby Orr

Brodeur
Luongo

Call me crazy but I think this team might be an improvement on what we've got , of course we'd have to get Bobby Orr out of retirement and buy him a couple of bionic knees but hey , it might be worth the gamble.
Who would we trade to get this team ? simple, Theo , Sundstrom , Zednik , Dagenais , Ribeiro , Dandenault ....and to sweeten the deal we could maybe throw in a real goody like Hossa , no wait , he's gone ummmm oh yeah !! Streit! worth his weight in Swiss Cheese ... no wait Theodore is the Swiss Cheese (full of holes)

See and the reality is that two keepers in Bulis and Koivu are UFA and if things keep on the way we are, won't be back.

Replace Jovo with Paul Coffey and you're cooking with fire.

You make an excellent point BUT if we get Coffey we'll need to keep the cheese (they go well together) or maybe trade someone else to get Vachon!!!

I love your new lines. I hope Bob Gainey reads this board, never have I seen such a clever and plausible plan. When he was asking the press what he should be doing, this is what he should have been told.

Replace Orr with Dagenais in there and you'll be all set!

If Stephane Lebeau's still got that cool minibar in his basement maybe we should resign him too?

That is exactly what (I hope) is built onto. That's a good core to develop together with some additions.

My list of forwards is exactly the same as yours. If we wanted an enforcer around, I liked what I saw from Downey tonight, even though he didn't drop the gloves. Edit: If the real Radek Bonk is the one we've seen in the last five games, I'd keep him around, too...if I had to.

My defensive "keepers list", on the other hand, is much much shorter. In fact, there's only one guy on it: Andrei Markov. All the others, I could do without. Except for Francis Bouillon. How could you not love that guy?

Rebuild? Are you joking? The Habs already have a ton of youth. They need only to wait for them to take larger roles on the club. They already have guys like Ryder contributing. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the others to catch up.

If anything, the Habs should be pushing hard for playoff spots. Lots of experienced youngsters in the lineup for next year would be great.

Sure, if there is only one defenseman on the team that deserves to wear the Canadiens jersey, it is definitely Francis Bouillon. Mark Streit is also perfect fit for 7th d-man spot and adds depth to our blueline. Those two stay here.

Now that lineup looks good and most of all possible. Although I expect Minnesota to resign Fernandez but if he doesn't then I would love to see BG go after him. I'm assuming Theo + Ribeiro gets traded for Bertuzzi? I would also move Plekanec to center and Bulis to the wing. Other then that your lineup looks great.

Forget about next year's lineup think about what we could do this year... the year ain't over because of a bad streak...

How much would it cost to lease J. Okinen till the end of the year.

Could we wave Theo or trade him along with Sundstrum to the Oilers for Dvorak and Laraque.

I would shake up the lineup like this...

Kovalev, Koivu, Ferland <--- Why Ferland cause he can stand in front of the net, he has good hands and could make room for both Kovy and Koivu.

Builis, Plekanek, Ryder <--- Because Ryder needs some creativity and both Bulis and Plek have shown they can bring creativity this year

Higgins, Bonk, Kostsitsyn <--- I think it would be a good line

Murray, Begin, Dawney <--- Once Murray is healthy... in the mean time it would be Ivannis..

So that would mean Ribs, Sunstrum and Zednik in the press box. Since Higgins is still injurred I would use Ribs on the left of Bonk.

Now the only thing we need is a defensive corps... with a healthy Markov and perhaps the aquisition of a new Dmen.
