Alright, this is maybe the hardest pick I have EVER made in any ATD..but I decided I need a big net presence to help on the PP, and therefore will take a guy who was apart of the Triple Crown Line. He scored 50+ goals twice and added a 40+ once as well before injuries got the best of him. Regardless, he is a two-time first all-star team selection and will be in a nice role..
I think Reen felt like Babcock would have been a good fit for his team, which I think is true. In a vacuum, though, I'm not at all sure he was the BCA.

If anybody drafts Barry Melrose to coach, you'll have an automatic intimidation advantage against that team in the playoffs. Burns should have fun with all your defensive forwards.
Overblown in the sense that he's not that good at anything else? Or overblown in the sense that his PP prowess is overrated?
I'm not talking about Henry, i'm talking about in general players are being criticized for not being able to be a net presence for whatever reason.
If a player was one of their teams top offensive players then they wouldn't have been used in that role. This is the ATD though so top offensive players who were the top goal scorers on their teams may be looked upon to be the net presence because there are better goal scoring options now.

BC, I read through your debate with overpass in last years draft thread and I would agree that he's not a better PP scorer than some of the elite scorers in this thing (even if the numbers are deceiving) but I don't think that discredits him as a very good PP specialist (i.e. he's a much better option on my first PP unit than the clearly superior player, Cecil Dillon).
Henry led the league in PP goals in 3 different seasons, one of which he set the record (later broken by Hull 10+ years later).

That is kind of my point, he is a good goal scorer, period.
It is just when we get into the "best powerplay scorer ever" type stuff that I have to say whoa.... I mean maybe I'm wrong but I think we're just reading too much into small numbers for that.
I mean obviously he's good on the powerplay, I'm not saying he isn't.
Babcock is a deserving ATD coach and all, but I didn't realize he'd be in such high demand.

it's not overblown at all. In real life he was a good goal scorer who was heavily biased towards PP scoring. In the ATD, he is a PP specialist.
Henry was top-7 in goals six times - 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 6th, 7th.
But as far as even strength scoring in those years? 4th, 5th, 9th, 18th, 42nd, 60th.
His excellence on the PP should not be understated, nor should his mediocrity at even strength be understated.
Henry scored 303 ESP in 727 games (0.42). Over the same period, Eric Nesterenko, who no one would dream of having on a scoring line, scored 367 in 965 (0.38).
His 224 PPP, on the other hand, are excellent.
We are smart enough and have the capability to analyze players' scoring in different situations. Why would be not do that?
The one thing I regretted about picking Henry last draft was that it handicapped my fourth line a bit. My team couldn't have rolled four lines - the fourth line would have to be spotted here or there, or have Jagr double-shift in Henry's place.
I really think he helped my power play. IMO he was a big upgrade over, say, Modano or Zetterberg on the first unit.
BraveCanadian has a bit of a point about Henry's power play goal scoring in that there were fewer players in the O6 era, and most weren't picked for their power play abilities (players like Paul Gardner might not make the league at all), so Henry was competing against fewer players for power play goals. But he still outscored players like Richard, Howe, Beliveau, etc on the power play in his best seasons and that's very impressive.

You're articulating what I am trying to get at better than I am.. and you're right, beating those guys is impressive.
