I saw some talk of this in another thread, but I feel it needs to be discussed in its own thread. It is absolutely mind blowing that the Islanders organization has done nothing to honor the life of this man. Especially considering how recently he's played for us. It really paints Charles Wang and the organization as careless and clueless.
i agree. granted, he didnt play for us that long but he should get at least a mention. Not really a special day but a moment of silence or something like that.

It reaaly should have been done when the Canes were at the Coliseum.
It was done earlier in the season. I don't remember which game, but they had a moment of silence for all the victims of the crash, and specifically noted the players with Islanders ties during a montage on the scoreboard. It was done well and it showed respect to those that lost their lives.
I don't recall who else, but there were 3 or 4 that lost their lives that either played or coached with the Isles.
Wasn't something posted on the front page of their website? What more can you really do than a moment of silence and remembrance? Do you have any suggestions?
I think the Ducks have had all year along a black batch on theyr jerseys with the number 24 (don't remember the players name). But I also think a moment of silence and a commemorative video adequate

Thank you and goodnight!
Yes the incident was a complete tragedy, but none of the players/coaches killed played/worked for the Islanders for any extensive period of time. I have no problem with the way the organization handled the matter. Save the vitriol for July 1st.

Many players are well-traveled now, and look at other teams who have had any of the players who perished in the Lokomotiv plane crash, they're recognized in some way on the uniform, even if that player had a brief stint on that team. The Islanders are truly a disgrace.

That would be for Ruslan Salei as he played 8 seasons for the Ducks. Compare that for the 1 season that Vasicek played for the Isles.
I don't really think it matters how long a player was with the team, if he was on of yours, he should be recognized.
So the players should wear a patch in tribute to Alexander Karpotsev who played all of 3 games for the team?
Amazing how some folks won't miss any opportunity to bash the team and Wang. Admittedly, most of the time it's deserved. But I'm sorry, this shouldn't be an issue.

The Mets honored a player who never played a game for them. I forget his full name, but I'm pretty sure his last name was Coleman. So if a player was honored after playing no games, yeah I'd say that a player who played "3 games" is worthy of some mention.
I agree with the OP. They could do a moment of silence for all of Lokomotiv and maybe point out the players who were affiliated with the Islanders whether it was one year or three days.

IIRC, i think it was done before the first home ranger game?

I too agree...and this was what the Islanders did.
There are plenty of other things to get frustrated with Isles management over...complaining about the extent as to which the Isles honored the Lokomotiv team shouldn't be one of them. And it's foolish for anyone to make the claim that Isles management clearly don't care about what happened.

But they DID give an official mention to the tragedy and to Vasicek, Karpotsev and McCrimmon specifically during a game, on the website, and on the televsion broadcast or are you just not reading what others have posted in this thread?

Geez, if you're going to go out of your way to complain about something at least have your facts right. There indeed was a moment of silence before a game and a video montage of all players/coaches who had ties to the NYI.

The player you are thinking of is Brian Cole who died in a car wreck. He was in their farm system for 2-3 years after being drafted out of high school. So he played a lot more then 3 games for the organization even if 0 were with the big team.
I never believed in the whole patch thing unless it was someone so instrumental in your success like a Bossy or a Billy Smith. That should be reserved for the players who played a long period of time in your organization and were part of something special. That is what makes it unique. What happened was tragic no doubt, but if you put a patch on for every Alex Karpotsev or Josef Vasicek than it loses its luster a bit in my opinion. That may sound insensitive but sensitivity isn't really my strong point
I think we should retire his number or put him in the Islanders HOF....
Come on guys. We are starting to look like a bunch of crying babies. Wang and Snow can be kicked for many things but lets not become bottom feeders to bash them. The plane crash was sad and the loss great but what more would you want considering none of the players were long time Islanders? Let's just hope we kick the rags butts Friday to put a good start to a wonderful weekend!!!

So players who are not stars can die without recognition?
