I don't see the Habs taking a chance on Carter. Less for his hockey abilities and more for the rumored issues regarding non hockey stuff. Also not sure they would want to give up what it would require and take on that long of a contract.

Would it be possible for:

Gomez (Cap reasons)
Prospect(s)?
Picks

For Carter

Then turn around and flip Carter for something?

No GM will touch Gomez's contract.

Bob Gainey did

But in all seriousness, if Montreal even thought of adding Carter, wouldn't Gomez need to go the other way for Cap reasons?

I would convert him to play right wing. I would love to have him but not at the cost of our 1st.

How can Montreal fill Columbus' needs without damaging their team to much? The Jackets need a young goalie (Montreal doesn't really have one to trade, Price taken out of the question, ha ha), a replacement to play 1st line center (maybe Plekanec, but I don't know if they want salary, maybe Eller but I would think Montreal wants him around long term), or young defensemen (Montreal won't move PK, so Beaulieu/Tinordi).

I'm just not sure where the pieces line up for a Carter trade, unless the Habs are willing to send out their draft pick, which I also doubt.

This is only speculating . But aren't the blue jackets looking for young ready Dmen and goaltending???

Im sure they (CLB) would do something like

Subban + (roster player) + 2nd (or 1st depending on roster player)
for
Carter

But MTL isn't in the position to be moving out any Dmen.

Same thing I was thinking. I was also thinking he should cost much. A player who is on the block after just being traded to that team shouldn't cost much. I think he will get the same package as we got for Cammy.

The Leafs can have him if they want. The Habs have had enough players with attitude problems...

yea I am sure CBJ would do that but no chance in hell MTL touches that deal. Subban is not available, even for Carter.

I want nothing to do for Carter and I would oppose giving any valuable assets (Eller, Price, Maxpac, 1st picks, Plek, Gorges, Emelin) in order to get him. He won't handle the pressure and the night life will eat his brains alive and then we'd be stuck with him for 10+ years.

Hell Naaaaa

I would give Gionta, Weber and a 2nd round pick, nothing more. The BJ's should expect the same package they paid for him.
