anisimov is 15 points off last years mark and +10 better, with 25 more games to play, i think he will be close to last years totals

What I mean is, everyone thinks him coming to a better team just automatically counts him for 35+ goals. What if he doesn't click with Richards?
who has he clicked with in columbus? but even in that situation he has put up his 35...

Depends on what expectations.

I see him as a 30-25, 30-30 kind of player.

Has to either be a big trade or maybe Howson is announcing they are not trading Nash?

I don't know. I feel if a trade was complete we'd already hear about it from someone with inside news.

He's a 1st line player. It's easier to fit in role players like Dubinsky. There's no guarantees he comes here and produces better because he's now on a better team like many say, or clicks with Richards. I wouldn't be surprised if he did in fact come here, and continue his production as is...an overpaid 65 point player or so.
But I thought Dubi is a Top 6 guy who is just having a down year? Now he's a role player?

He's got 11 goals, two-thirds through the season...at that pace, he'll score 16 goals. That's not the number for a top six forward, especially is he's only got 18 assists.

LA would have to be sending Bernier back in that deal. CBus needs a goalie.

There is plenty of room for improvement, but this isn't about complacency. It's about patience and opportunity.

I wouldn't mind adding any of the players you mentioned - if budgetary concerns weren't an issue. In fact, I think Nash, Ott, and to a lesser extent Allen, would all solve a bunch of this team's problems. But this is a cap league, and everything has to be about budget first. Nash and Ott simply make too much money. With the RFAs coming up over the next couple of summers, and the Rangers already overpaying 3 4th liners, this is just not wise financial management.

Dubinsky, McIlrath, Thomas and a 1st is most certainly a price that I would be willing to pay to get Nash if he was paid reasonably appropriately. I'm not going to lose it if this deal is made as I did when the Rangers signed Gomez or Redden. It wouldn't be a catastrophe of those proportions, but it wouldn't be the right move. This team has a long window. Not winning the Cup this season would not be the end of the world. The window has just opened.

You make moves when they are right for you. If the move isn't right for you, then you show some resolve and wait for a better opportunity. If you have reason to believe no other opportunity will present itself in the near future, then you make compromises. $7.8 million for the next six years is not right for this team. Not for a good but not elite player like Nash. There is evidence to believe other opportunities will present themselves. Better opportunities.

And I'm not so sure how much better the 94 team was after they made those trades. I always thought they could have won it all with the team they had before those deals were made (well, except Larmer... he was awesome). Glenn Anderson was monster in the playoffs, and is a very nice guy in person, but I think the team could have won with Gartner, too. Ditto for some of the other moves.
This post is too good not to re-quote. I definitely agree with your sentiments, especially regarding how our window has just opened. I think this team may need to gain some more playoff experience before they win a cup so I won't be surprised nor devastated if they don't win it all this year, with our without Nash.

Also, while on the topic of 94, Neil Smith admitted that the team was getting older and there was little chance of winning multiple cups at that point. The Rangers were still in the midst of their cup drought and it was go for broke that year. He knew that the moves made at the deadline would compromise the future but he was willing to make that sacrifice for just one cup. The current Rangers team isn't in such a position -- their window is just opening and that level of desperation that was apparent in 94 due to the curse is not present.

Play him with Stepan??

Really this is what we are reduced to he might not click with Richards? At the start of the season people kept saying Dubi had to be on Richards line because he needed a PF...now there is a chance to get a true 30-35 goal PF and the concern is his chemistry with BR?????????????????

True, but they could always use LA's 1st to draft one.

I feel like their 2nd at 31st would be more than enough to draft a goalie anyway. They're such question marks though.

Although everyone knows the real secret to drafting goalies is drafting the Swedes and the Finns in late rounds.

NYR lacking one more pure offensive player . I think Nash becomes part of the future . If you can keep Kreider and sign him this deal works .
Except eggshell head Crosby might return for the playoffs and MJ didn't. There's no this roster beats the Penguins with Crosby as is. They might not even beat them with Nash, but it gives us a chance. I don't even know if this roster is good enough to beat the Crosby-less Penguins.

Do not disagree, but the point remains that watching a highlight video is not a reasonable way to evaluate anyone.

Well exactly, even Bernier looked like a sure thing.. now? not so much. Goalies constantly come out of nowhere and top projected ones often falter.
