Don't sell yourself short. You might be better than Crawford ... or Thomas or Price!!

Some peoples hatred of Emery is showing. The fact is he is likely better than Richards and will be the backup in Rockford and 4th in line for the throne should massive injuries strike.
The other possibility is Emery will actually be moved and Salak will be coming to the big club. Either way this in itself is not a big deal and nobody should really read to much into this.

There is also the possiblity Salak could be on way out as part of a trade Brev as well and that is why Hawks signed Hutton

I love Salak as prospect though so hopefully nothing like that happens (I have liked him for a few years)

I just don't understand this move at all...

Which team is in need of goaltending? Columbus? Are we packaging Emery and some other things for carter?

Hutton is worse than Richards...

I dont like Hutton but your last statement is 100% false

Hutton is better goalie then Richards

Could come down to something as simple as Stan and Hawks have been happy with way guy has played and want to reward him with a NHL contract. With Salak likely the #2 for Hawks next year (If not traded or something) we will need a #1 in AHL. So maybe Hutton is the guy for next year to be Hogs #1

Ok, I understand that, but why not just sign him to an AHL contract extension instead of giving him a full NHL contract that adds to our contract limit?

He's the doomsday option in terms of playoff depth in goal.

If Crawford gets a groin injury, Emery's hip starts acting up, and Salak gets struck by a meteorite, who would play goal for the Hawks? Definitely not Alec Richards.

Because then he is available to be signed by any other team

Signing him to NHL contract would mean he is Hawks property. Thus he is our guy in Rockford next year and not a risk to lose him to another NHL team

That's so ridiculous that it's funny.

It's the exact same reason we acquired Hannu Toivonen during the Cup year.

Not to mention another scrub who never should've put on a Hawks uniform, NIck Boynton, who was also acquired right before the TD in 2010. Biggest difference with Boynton is that he actually had to play in the playoffs for us.

Boynton wasn't terrible for those games in SCF ,, Giving him another year was issue

Toivonen at least had NHL experience and was a once highly regarded prospect. Didn't have issue acquriing him for depth in cup year

Boynton did all he needed to do for three games. No complaints, really.

This is basically the same as the Toivonen acquisition. Nothing given up (except "future considerations"), but playoff depth gained. We had three goalies signed back then too. Niemi, Huet, Crawford.

I don't expect Hutton to ever play a game for the Hawks, but giving him an NHL contract is pretty much nothing lost, something (extremely small) gained.

Segal was on an NHL contract. Likely the reason he was moved was because Chicago wanted to get Hutton under one, as well. It's possible another team was interested in him. San Jose previously had him under an NHL deal.

Wallace is likely just going to be used as a warm body. The Lightning traded two forwards already in a week. They need bodies for the rest of the year to fill out their roster and by claiming a guy who got some NHL experience this year and isn't terrible at his role (4th line), they got someone to play and don't have to give the Admirals a hassle by bringing up more guys.

Leafs waive Rosehill and Boyce. Could open up space for a trade.

Mittens has an NMC so he agreed to be waived from a playoff contender? What's going on up there in Winnipeg?

Was it ever resolved if Mittens' NMC was honored by Winnipeg?

He's been a healthy scratch for several games. He probably just wants a chance to play, wherever that may be.
