The Kings have acquired forward Jeff Carter from Columbus in exchange for Jack Johnson and a first-round pick. The pick is conditional. If the Kings miss the playoffs this season, it’s a 2013 first-round pick. If they don’t, the Blue Jackets can choose either the 2012 or 2013 first-round pick. Barring any surprises, Carter should be able to play for the Kings on Saturday. He will have to pass a physical, as is standard after a trade, and the Kings play at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Part of me wishes it had been Bernier, that way Johnson could potentially have brought in another top 6 winger. The market for Bernier is probably too limited to bring a top 6er back.

I think so too. He'd be worth more if he played more. As it stands right now though, he's not worth more than a player who has second round value. Varlamov went for high value, but the guy played a lot.
I feel bad that JJ is being sent to the glue factory in Columbus. I'll miss his contributions but this team really blew it this year and brought this upon themselves.

Keep in mind he'd be in driving distance from his home in Michigan. That's not so bad.
Things seem to have accelerated w/Kings-CBJ Carter trade--last 2 losses probably contributed. Could come together tonight. Johnson to go to CBJs. Probably a first-round pick as well. Had been told CBJ wanted another player. not sure where that stands
If true, I hope this works out but I still worry about Carter's ability and desire at wing. Hope I'm wrong.
Flyers (East) fan here.
I think Carter will light it up, to be honest. He's always played a defensively responsible game, and he wasn't as bad on the wing as people seem to think. Mostly, though, I think he's been in a bit of a funk all year in Columbus--in addition to the shock of being traded, the reality, for basically the first time in his career, of being on a non-contending team.
Carter was a whipping boy here in Philadelphia, and some of it was certainly deserved--but he's a very good player, and I think he will do well in LA.
I'll root for you, right up until the SCF, of course.
