JJ was a solid character guy.. Any guy who pays his own way to make the opening of the Olympics is okay in my book.

JJ will be missed..
It's needed. The "Core" is not performing, so someone in the "Core" needs to go, to show the rest of them that this isn't all fun and games here.

This is a big reason why I like this deal. If this doesn't make the playoffs, Dean and likely Sutter are gone. I really like this group upfront in a system that is more conducive to offense.

Like other posters mention. This is that moment when everything changes. If Carter becomes a King two things happen. The first is that we lose JJ because of our players. It's not just a GM's choice it's because the players on the tema didn't play well enough to all JJ to stay around and they should know it. The second is that we've become the Flyers.

Which is scary because I honestly think the Flyers realized they'd made a mistake by signing their cores to that level of years/money and wanted to get out of the situation. A situation we're going to now be in.

Hope it works.....

Does Carter produce more than jacks 12 pts in 12 playoff games?

Let's hope so, if we get that far

One thing that's for sure in this league, is you have to be strong down the middle. Kopitar-Richards-Carter, talent wise, could be the best in the league today. Over the last few years maybe only second to Crosby-Malkin-Staal, but I didn't spend too long thinking about that I could be wrong there.

The 1st round pick? Fine. Dean Lombardi hasn't done as much in the draft as we like to think. If the Kings miss the playoffs, he won't be around to not use it.

One issue though, is that he is not a winger. I guess they can try him there again, but the only time he played on the wing for an extended period of time was during the 2010 playoffs for the Flyers, and it was by default on his off-wing. Ville Leino replaced him in the lineup when he got hurt vs. the Devils, and played well above expectations with Briere and Hartnell. Claude Giroux had moved to center full time, and a lot of things were working with he, JVR and Arron Asham. The only place to put him back in was to replace Dan Carcillo on the line with Mike Richards and Simon Gagne. They made the best of basically not being a complete failure for the Flyers (which was easy against a Montreal team who couldn't score), but against Chicago in the Finals, it wasn't very effective.

I don't care about the actual stat, but 8 is an embarrassing number. Putting aside the hits argument, I believe he doesn't compete, doesn't bring it every night, and I am terrified we just traded a loyal young d-man who has been there for this team for Penner 2.0. I have watched a lot of Carter since he came into the league, and am basing my opinion on that.

I hope so much that I'm wrong.

Carter is on pace for more goals than any King while playing 20+ games less on the worst team in the league... Not too bad.

Oh well, as long as we deny the Maple Leafs another center... That's all that matters

How about Doughty for Nash?

even if we have to include a 1st and a 2nd draft pick?

I think DD is not worth the $7M/yr and Nash's salary wouldn't be much more than that, so it is almost a wash in salaries,

JJ has been better most of this year than DD has been and Voynov could probably do okay replacing DD,

can't take credit for this trade idea cuz I saw it posed somewhere else from LA Times' post

but Columbus prob doesn't want DD, so how about DD and JJ and a pick for Nash and Carter?

btw, I was wondering why the heck Bernier didn't start yesterday on the back to back?

especially after Quick looked tired the day before?

Bad decision by Sutter, regardless of how Bernier might have done, aLthough he did fine when he got in to replace Quick...

I hope this trade doesn't happen if JJ is involved (although at least I won't have to hear Kings fans complaining about him anymore). If Voynov can replace Johnson, which I don't believe he can right now, just move Jack to wing and I bet he's good for 30 goals on a cheaper and better contract than Carter. But, Lombardi is desperate and predictable, so I'm sure it will be JJ and a 1st.

I'm sorry, I'm not buying this. You don't put up his numbers year after year and not "bring it", "compete", or whatever you want to call it. Not only that, but he has notoriously played through injury and done everything he can to stay in the lineup. He is known for having an above average defensive game. For god's sake, not every player on the Kings needs to be a checking grinder. That's what got us into this mess.

Over the last two seasons, Carter outscored Marian Gaborik, Marian Hossa, Brad Richards, and Ilya Kovalchuk.

Playing on Philly, but still.

I'm stoked

JJ proved he wanted to be here in the way he handled his contract. He is the definition of a Lombardi guy. I would rather see DD go for his salary.

Also, I think if they really want to shake things up, package Brown and make someone worthy captain.
