Our pick will be top 10 or top 5. After 8-10th overall, it's just luck if you get a Carter-caliber player. Like I said, Kings pick is same value as our 2nd this year.

Not that I care for Nash and Carter but that just shows the price teams pay for top talent is often less than the speculation on this board. Our top brass sucks and we are never really in the race for those players.
You may think Johnson sucks, but he is highly regarded around the league. Also, it takes 2 to tango....Habs for whatever reason either don't have the players other teams are looking for or they don't want to pull the trigger.

Probably more the latter. Was it Higgins Gainey was unwilling to give to get Marian Hossa? And then he just gets rid of him in the Gomez deal. Unreal.

I thought it was a "I'll sit by the phone while you get back to me" and then Atlanta made the deal with Pitt.

Gainey doesn't seem like the type to not want to budge on players when you consider his history.

Kovalev deal - "pick between Pleks and Balej"
Lecavalier deal (which Betman had to jump in and save Gainey from himself - "Here's half the team"
Gomez deal - "....Well Glen, if you want McDonaugh then throw in Pyatt"

The thing that's bothersome is we "give away" young talent that can be packaged to get a good player. I don't mind trading players, but giving away is a different story.

That sounds like him. I just remember there was some trade where Higgins was the key element.

I think of those high-profile deals as foreclosures. There is desperation on one side (CBJ wanting to blow up their team) so you can possibly get a good deal. However, the passive guy will never win the auction.

Barring a meltdown in the Peg, Leafs are in 9th place.

If we can land Dustin Brown and shift out Plekanec, and then draft a center, we have everything we need for next season. GET IT DONE!

Forgive me if I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying we should trade Plekanec for Dustin Brown?

Why would LA trade their Captain ?

They have already so much offensive problems that they cannot trade him.

Its working out pretty good for us today. Other than Tampa losing staying 2 points ahead of us. Anaheim and Carolina both pickup points today. Best thing that could have happened. Edmonton is winning, and Minnesota won. We are in third last. Still too many games to go for positioning.

Hannan finds the blooper reel, Whitney finds the net

I feel sorry for Hannan tripping up like that but it was still funny.
