No to trading Whitney, Gilbert, Smid, or Petry for a forward. We need those 4. Tambellini needs to find another top 3 defenseman this summer (preferably a #2 defenseman).
Is LA doing the right thing? Or is Lombardi mortgaging the franchise to try to save his a$$?
From last year deadline, he gave up a 1st and Teubert for Penner... Then Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn & a 2nd, Jack Johnson and a 1st for Mike Richards and Carter...
Both Richards & Carter are 27 yrs old have 10 years left at $5.75M & $5.25M, thats $11M locked up for the next 10 years on two players the Flyers didn't want reportedly due to character, personality clashes, and partied harder than the team could tolerate.
Don't forget Mike Richards was the Philly's captain that refused to speak with the media for the whole year, and Carter was his buddy.
I do expect them to do well initially keeping the playoff spot that LA has right now, and may be even surprise for a round in the playoff. However, after this, I think this is trouble for LA, just imagine getting stuck with Carter & Richards until they are 37 yrs old and $11M in cap spaces.... This Lombardi is ruining the Kings Franchise imo.
In talking with a Kings mod, apparently the defense in LA is set. Doughty - Mitchell, Voynov - Scuderi, AMart - Greene
They want wingers. Hemsky should be obvious. I got no problems moving Omark. Whatabout if they asked for Jones?... Heartbeat I'd move him for Brown TBH.
Just a bored Sens fan, but I was wondering if it could make sense from your perspective to acquire Bernier? Hemsky could be a great piece in getting him, and it could benefit the Oilers in a big way long term.

This Oiler fan is hoping exactly for that.....Bernier to EDM and Hemsky to LA
The Hemsky has been playing stellar the last 12 games and hasn't look hurt. Trading him, I can see Oilers fans regretting in the not too distant future.
As much as I dislike Brown, IMO he's more of an upgrade on wing compared to what we have than Bernier is over Dubnyk.
I don't think Dubnyk is necessarily going to be a #1, but he's got about 7-8 inches on Bernier and has proved just as much. He might have more potential, but this team needs answers to their problems not more question marks with something to prove.
If Bernier flourishes, you win the deal hands down. If he ends up as good as Dubnyk going forward, we look stupid.
Try and sign Hemsky to a 2 maybe 3 year deal, Draft Murray/Dumba/Rielly/ whoever is the Best Dman available at 2/3rd overall. Try and Sign a number 2 and 6 dman this offeason. Stay the course and pray injuries dont devour our team like the last couple of years. Ideally Somehow move Horcoff and name Hall or Whitney Captain. IF Horcoff is moved move Lander to the third line and Belanger to 4th. Khabibulin gone, trade for an up and coming goalie stuck behind a star such as Bernier, Harding, Rask, etc.
@DarrenDreger
As I said earlier, teams are circling with interest in Hemsky. But, don't rule out the Oil making one more push to re-sign him. 2 years, $10 mil (5 per) might keep Hemsky an Oiler...might not. Options being considered in Edmo. No doubt about that. #TradeCentre
With the way Petry is playing... I think I'd do that.
um, no we need more top-4 dmen, not fewer

has been proposed.
all kings fans hate, most, but not all, oiler fans like
plus we would need to dump khabby somewhere, i dont want to give up dubnyk. la wouldn't take khabby
It is so weird for LA to be trading or just being rumored to be moving their captain at the trade deadline.
They have been a playoff team last couple years, in a playoff spot battle now, deemed as a 2nd tier contender in the West, why in the world would you want to trade your Captain with 20 some games left in the season?
There's got to be something not right with Brown i am guessing. Is that to do with him always going out to make hits but would not stand up for himself when challenged? I've heard someone mentioned that he would also not stand up for his teammate where his teammate ended up cleaning up after mess that he had started?
Anyone heard that too? If that is the case, that may not be a player we want.

He's fought 9 times in his career. The latest was against Shane Doan where Doan was sticking up for a teammate off a draw.
He'll answer the bell, but you don't want Brown fighting. He's not good at it.
I'd gladly take a player who's going to target everyone on the ice and finish them, regardless if he'll answer the bell afterwards. Who fought Hartnell tonight? Time to start giving instead of receiving.
