Brown is a RW. We are weak at LW. I'm not saying I don't make that trade, but i'd rather deal something else. Anisimov+Thomas+first, maybe.
I think someone said in the last thread that Brown can play both wings.

Perfect time for LA to deal Brown. Asset value will never be higher. 7 years of pounding on boards. Few do it beyond late-20s.

He will have his worst offensive season in a while this season. Not a great skater.

Which sucker GM will overpay for Brown?

LA wants a Top 4 D-Man and a winger for Brown, price is pretty high.

Seriously. DB is the man. Why would LA do this, why trade their captain at all?

If you can get Brown straight up for Dubi, I think you do it. If you get him for Anisimov+, you definitely do it.

hometown boy [Ithaca] - I watched him win the NYS HS championship as an 8th grader.
good fit for us - can grind, hit, score and is a proven leader.
cap hit is low.
do it

L.A is atleast going to require at least a 2nd or 1st round pick, you would have to imagine. They are pickless in the first 3 rounds.

So Erixon/MZA? Could we keep Anisimov out of it somehow?

what contending team is really going to give LA a top 4 dman?

no one. you don't deal top 4 dmen away at the deadline when your trying to win a cup.

at best they could get a top d prospect like erixon but they aren't getting a legit top 4 guy from anyone lombardi is on another planet

No idea, really, but I don't think that would get it done. Though, who knows what kind of value MZA has around the league?

To me, Brown is one of those guys that everyone says they'd love to have on their team, but when he arrives, people are underwhelmed. Sure, he hits like a train and he scores goals, but he's also wildly inconsistent offensively, virtually clueless defensively, a lousy fighter, and undisciplined.

I'd love to get Nash, but it has to be at the right price, and Sather needs to have a plan to resign our RFAs at the end of next year.

If not, Brown is a perfect plan B. Plays the game the Torts kind of way. I wouldn't even stop at just Brown, go out and see if you can pick up Ales Hemsky as well. He's an explosive offensive player, has a lot of valuable postseason experience, and is deadly on the power play.

for what's its worth, I asked CAPGEEK on the TSN trade deadline chat about the Brown contract:

CapGeek: "Derek W., the Rangers have a minimum of $6.9m in cap space and some options to gain even more. Dustin Brown's cap hit is $3.175m, so the math works out nicely for the Rangers."

A young D-man yeah, but a somewhat established one. McKenzie said on TSN 1050 this morning they want a top 4 D-man and a secondary scorer. Said an offer from Leafs would have to be Schenn + MacArthur.

This. I used to love Brown but then I paid a little closer attention and noticed that while he is a physical guy he's often on the wrong side of it. He can hit hard but doesn't take them as well.

From 2:10-2:16 of this video always makes me laugh.

It wouldn't necessarily have to come from a contender though. Someone like Kubina could have been real attractive to LA.

I actually may be open to the idea of Brown + Ott over Nash. Ott has played with Richards before and played well. He fits the mold of difficult to play against. So does Brown.

I think Sather is going to come away with Brown, or Nash, or both at this deadline. I just don't see Sather standing pat when the team is in the position that it is.

I don't dispute the accuracy of your statement. Nonetheless, while McIlrath is a cut below the Erixon, etc. crowd in skill, he is a really tough D and while it's still the other coast and the other conference, I don't want to lose him.

Something with a core of
Thomas + Boyle + 2012 1st for Brown (slight overpayment)
can do it and we should hold firm.

Also like I said earlier, + 2013 2nd + Paveltenko + Wovywitka (slight overpayment)
gets us
A. Martinez
[in combo with the overpayment]

and is better way to go.

Brian Burke?

Also, the good thing about Brown is that his contract ends before he's 31.

I think they forgot what type of player Brown is and what he actually puts up per year
