He's a real responsible guy. Helped out with rookies, was there to welcome new players to the club, does charity work in the community, a very solid citizen. Most Kings fans thought he was ready for the "C" when he got it and really he was the natural choice.

But he's not a vocal guy, doesn't really lead by example, doesn't stand up for guys in a scrum and to top it all off, dives. A couple of summers ago, when Kopitar and Brown were asked after losing to Vancouver in the playoffs what this team needed most of all, both Brown and Kopitar responded with "a left wing." Lombardi was publicly very disappointed that they did not point the finger at themselves. Many Kings fans have had lengthy discussions about whether Brown is captain material and many, myself included, think he is not. I also think that he would not deal well with having the "C" taken off his chest.

I really like him as a person and I think in the right situation, he can be a terrific player, despite his faults. I don't think that's going to happen in LA.

I'm torn on the issue... I'd love to see an upgrade like Brown, but it's hard to let young guys with upside go for another 2nd liner. (not a knock on Brown, but he isn't an elite talent)
Burke has been frugal with our young assets but he's shown a willingness to use them if he feels the returns are worth it.

I agree with you fully that we lack a cycle game and the board works but I dont want to make a move for the sake of a move to make the playoffs. I dont want the price to be that premium, if brown is unavailable, we go for a younger player who has the potential to do the same, say carter ashton??
We got blown out my Calgary, Montreal, and Vancouver, and that 1 goal game vs. Philadelphia was not very telling of what actually happened.

Back on topic, Dustin Brown isn't a rental. He would be a core player with us. He's only 27 and has two more years on a great cap hit. I think saying "oh, we'll just wait for a #1C to become available so that Burke can get him" is the easy way out. #1Cs don't grow on trees, and when they are available, Burke wouldn't be the only GM interested in one.

It would, but why would L.A Trade their captain while they are trying to go deep in the playoffs?

Jonathan Quick will need a new contract.

They're paying Kopitar, Carter, Richards and Doughty approximately 50% of the cap.

Quick likely demands $5M after next season.

Do the math.

Oh... and they have almost 0 secondary scoring.

Only entertaining the idea. I still don't believe Brown is available.

Makes sense to me.

No one ask me for link - too lazy to find it, might be the top story on twitter or a Hockeybuzz article.
Makes sense I guess, is sorta what I figured if they are trying to get rid of him, but really hadnt heard much about it.

There's no feud between Richie and Brown.

He's not untouchable but Frattin has really impressed management and fans during his call-up with the Leafs. And if Schenn is the key piece going the other way, then Frattin certainly won't be added imo.

He has very good offensive upside, decent speed, has a pretty large frame, and opposing players bounce off of him and end up getting the worst of it whenever they line him up for a hit. Right now he has an impressive 12 goals and 4 assists in 21 games with the Marlies.

Not untouchable, but you'll have to knock Burke's socks off with something else if he's added.

Not a direct fight. But when one is captain, one is a former captain who wants to show similar leadership - tension will occur.

Let me see if I understand you correctly. Through this thread you've constantly mentioned how terrible the Leafs are, Mac scores 20 on a terrible team (which is more than anyone on LA has) yet if he were to be moved to LA, a far superior team in your view he wouldn't score 5?

quick, what's 1 + 1

those 4 have a cap hit of 24.82 mil

Browns hit is 3.1, Williams is 3.65,

now with those two high quality forwards added to the above 4 you mentioned - that equals almostr 50% of the cap. Not as bad of shape as you make it appear

Leafs do play a much more open offensive style while the Kings play more rigid defensive style. I still believe Mac will produce.

I'd think Ott is a possibility for Toronto, but I'm fairly certain Brown will not go there.

Yeah I get that part. Just that guys post were so blatanly based on Leaf hate and nothing else I couldn't resist.

On topic: I don't think Toronto will be willing to pay what LA wants for Brown, but I'd sure love to have him.

Sources (Boby mack) say they like brown as a player but not a captain. They would prefer Richards get the C.
