Anytime you try to trade for a teams captain they are going to want the farm, imagine if it was speculated Callahan was available.

No way we get both.

Both Nash and Brown? No. But one of Nash/Brown plus someone like Ales Hemsky might be doable.

I'd rather stand pat than take on Hemsky.

Why?

I don't want both of them. Honestly, to me, people who think we should get both Brown and Nash or Brown and another significant forward are being ridiculous. I really hope any other forward acquisitions beyond one of the two guys are relatively minor.

CHEMISTRY people.

Why? He's incredibly skilled, very good on the powerplay, isn't an enigma, and has an expiring contract. My only concern would be durability.

I wouldnt be against getting Hemsky if it was a second move to acquiring Nash/Brown because it drastically improves our offense for a deep playoff run. More importantly hemsky would be an expiring contract

Only reason I mentioned it is because you do end up moving dubinsky in a package for Nash, then you could replace him with Brown. It could work cap wise and Brown doesnt have a long term contract

Do not want Hemsky. Who would he be replacing and taking minutes from? Making a change just to make a change to a team who is in 1st makes no sense. Not a good move.....

Either true or trying to raise the price.

Agree. Hemsky = Wolski

For the record. I don't want Brown. He is going to cost more in assets than he is worth because of that low cap hit. This from an LA Kings Blog :

Dustin Brown is average, at best, defensively. He can hit. He is not mean. He is not edgy. He is smash mouth in his hitting only. He cannot fight. He is good for 15-25 goals per season and is wildly inconsistent from week to week. His hockey IQ is questionable.

Hemsky isn't an enigma???? He's the epitome of enigma.

A player that will never live up to expectations. Will never be healthy.

5 goals this year. FIVE.

NO to Hemsky.

I'm not a huge fan of wolski but he absolutely does not equal Hemsky. Hemsky is much more of an impact player. The only down side is he has been hampered with injuries

Or maybe he took stock of the intiial offers and determined that he was not going to get what he wantedr. Now he is trying to save face with the player by saying he is not on the market. That was the one piece of making Brown available that did not make sense. If you did not trade him, how do you get him back for the playoff push?

I think this was Lombardi's exit strategy 'Crazy media had it worng. He isn't available"

Wait . . . I thought adding Brown would be like adding another Callahan?

I really hope Sather isn't the moron that wildly overpays for an above average second liner.

I hate this week and will hate the next few days. Hate sitting at school and work checking HFBOARDS every 5 minutes to see if a trade went down. Getting me nervous for sure, don't want Sather to do anything stupid.

If Brown isn't available, stand pat. No need to destroy the chemistry here unless Sather pulls a rabbit out of his ***.

I like that. Make an easy move Sather, draft picks for Pahlsson, Kostitsyn. Don't sell the farm/kill the chemistry. Re-evaluate in off-season

We will end up acquiring neither Brown, who was just taken off the market, nor Nash, and then half the fanbase will be jumping off bridges come Monday.

I stand corrected. He is better than wolski, but similar in that you don't know what you are going to get from them night in night out. Both are very talented. Hemsky has had more actual production, but this has been a rough year for him. I don't think I would have much confidence that he would walk in here and turn things around in 20 games.

Good to hear. No need for panic or desperation. Let's see how the Rangers do in the playoffs and then Slats can decide whether a drastic move is needed. It's OK if we don't win the cup this season... the Rangers are a young, inexperienced team and the best may be yet to come.

I think you guys are misreading that tweet.

Just because Glen Sather is sitting back relaxed doesn't mean he has given up on Nash, he's still going hard after Nash--as judged by the final offer tweet, but he understands he's done all he could.
