If he gets injured, insurance pays. So there's no real loss to the Oilers.

Hemsky has world class talent. His injury history is a concern but that's a risk you have to take. When he plays, he usually produces (.92ppg since the lockout excluding this season).

Are we to assume all of his talent is gone? Are the people criticizing the contract even aware of what other players around the league have already gotten?
Do you think Montreal made a good decision signing Markov?

Hemsky fits with this team, he has shown he wants to be an Oiler, he meshes very well with Taylor Hall, and he is a great guy, he has been playing really well of late, keep in mind this season he came off MAJOR surgery to his shoulder and many guys take nearly a year to recover, we are finally seeing a healthy hemsky and he is playing well.

2 Years at 5 Per is a fair deal, please tell me who is gonna play 2nd line RW without him?

And please go read Mr Bugg's post and reply to that if you are so smart.

Kesler was an RFA. It's a totally different situation.

To all of the people critiquing this offer. What do you think Hemsky would get on the open market if he is a free agent on July 1st? I bet it would be more than five million.

So much hating in here but I don't even care.

If you watch Oilers games you know Hemsky looks different from years past. Looks healthy finally, which makes his history less concerning. Did he get injured from the Kronwall hit? What about a hit by Souray? What about the 5 crosschecks he took yesterday? No he just keeps on going. Im not saying he will never get hurt again, but you can tell he looks different.

He finally looks comfortable out there. Obviously someone who missed as much games as he did in the last 2 years would take a while to shake off the rust. Not to mention he is playing with Hall and showing some really good chemistry.

Don't worry though, keep looking at the stats, keep saying he is soft, keep saying he is lazy, keep saying he sucks because he only has 5 goals. All it shows is how much you really know about him.

I know. I just think its hilarious.

Doesn't look good now. I can start pulling out names with similar cases to Hemsky.

Gaborik had groins made of paper in Minnesota. Did that stop the Rangers from giving him $7.5M a year in 2009? No. Their cases are similar too, injury wise. Gaborik played 502 games in his first eight seasons; Hemsky 490. Gaborik only played 17 games the year he became a UFA.

This Hemsky contract is comparable to what has been the market since last season.

There's no risk for the Oilers here. Read the post by Mr Bugg that's been posted in here twice.

I don't think it's a terrible deal if Hemsky can stay healthy, my only point is though that the Oilers fans who are defending the deal are using a bunch of terrible deals to justify Hemsky's. Tim Connolly? Ville Leino? I dare any EDM poster to find a post by an EDM fan stating that either of those was a good deal last year.

I think the deal was the best option among a bunch of bad choices from the Oilers perspective. I just don't think that anyone should be using some TERRIBLE UFA contracts to justify this as a good deal. I don't think anyone was going to pony up what the Oilers wanted for a trade, and they definetely need someone to fill the scoring line winger role next year. But the devil you know (Hemsky), is better than trying to ill the role with an uproven kid or an UFA they'd have to overpay IMO.

Yes...that's right, an actual, well-reasoned, thought out argument of why it's a good idea. Disagree? How about a well thought out agument that is opposed instead of the constant 'LOL, Hemsky sucks. $5M on the IR'
the Mr.Bugg post is the best thing posted from the last thread, ..funny how no one tries to answer him.
only ignore and post usual *herp, derp, hemsky 5M, ..Oilers is stupid haha**

I don't see anything wrong with the deal. It's only a 2 year deal, I think it's well worth the risk.

Hemsky would be lucky to get 4.5m a year on the open market.

Hemsky hasn't played like himself for 2 years, and is coming of 3 million injuries.

don't kid yourself

Wrong.

PRV - Gagner - Eberle
Hall - RNH - Hemsky

Solid top 6 IMO...We have 5 young guys in our top 6. There needs to be 1 more, and it happens to be a RWer.

Well, yes, it is, because that's what the market gave three different players last summer.

Since you appear to just look at the stats, how did you miss his 42 points in 47 games last year. "Hasn't played like himself in two years"

He's had one bad year statisically in his career. It's this season and if you've been watching him as the season has gone on, he's improving. Are you shocked that it hasn't been smooth for him coming off two serious shoulder injuries?

This is Hemsky's first bad year in the NHL so I don't know where you got the 2 years from. He has also started to play well again as of late. He also hasn't had "3 million" injuries.

How is this a surprise or a "fail" to people.

Now say the Oil were offering him a 5 year deal, then we have a problem.....its a 2 year deal, he will be off the books when the Big 3 (Hallsie/Ebs/RNH) need there MONEY!!!!

The team has cap space, so it means NOTHING.

Its a 2 year deal, I have no problem with that.

And to think he would not score over 5mil per in the open market this summer you are all fooling yourself......Has anyone seen the market for July 1st???

Given the players available on this years UFA market, I would disagree. If he makes it to UFA, he will get at least $5M per. There are always GMs desperate for offense.

Sorry but this analogy is just plain wrong.

1/2/3 wrongs do not make a right.

Just because some other gms payed a ton of money for average free agents does not mean the oilers have to with hemsky.

Look at dan hamhuis for example, the guy is making 4.5m a year, and yes he was a UFA
