Yes, but he's not mean or gritty, nor does he throw bone crushing hits, just consistently puts out a lot of solid body checks.

My favorite Smithson quote "Every hit is an investment"

Well, that sounds fine. Basically the typical, solid 4th line center.

We've had Mike Santorelli as our 4th line center for most of the year and he doesn't quite fit those characteristics as I'm sure you all know. Santorelli might be dealt as he's looking like the odd-man out. Perhaps Goc for something better.

We're loaded with your ex-centers. Maybe that's why we're no longer a laughing stock lol. Keep adding players from a good organization.

Yes, but he's a roleplayer. His problem is that he's just getting too old. Perhaps a change in scenery will work for him but he's just a 4th liner who works on the pk/checker.

Plays hard every night - very scrappy.
it sounds simple we can plug this guy in and he'll do what Smithson did but when it comes to the playoffs will they be able to handle the pressure or win a big faceoff. We'll find out

I posted in the trade forum thread as well, but it's a sad trade for me. Smithson was one of the more recognizable Preds guys locally for his extensive involvement in the organization's community service and public outreach efforts. He also seemed like a very kind and personable person from watching interviews and Preds video clips (golf tournament, etc.) His play this year has been subpar, but I wish him the best; I can't imagine he is loving this trade, felt like he loved playing here. I could never be a GM; would get too attached to people.

Poile has to be one of the most loyal GMs in the sport. So it is a surprise to see him trade someone like Smithson.

If Klein somehow gets traded, this board will likely implode from the lack of whipping boys available. Oh...there are always the Legwand haters. Nick Spaling, the bottom 6 is in your hands.

I said a while ago I thought this team had outgrown smithson. He frustrates me with his play, but I hope for nothing but the best for him in Florida.

this. Cannot overstate how favored Smithers has been over the years.

Somethings coming... gotta be.... no reason to trade veteran depth with a playoff run looming unless you need the roster spot..

ok, something has to be coming, if we had left mcgratten or hornqvist on ir tomorrow night, we wouldn't have had to have made this move, now the questions is who....stay tuned...

As Smithson left the locker room for the final time, he gave his share of the goat pictures to Bouillon. "Keep the spirit alive," he said to Frankie.

Smithson is decent enough in a defensive capacity, but he has zero puck skill or offensive instinct to speak of. Put him in a very limited role and he'll be a successful acquisition.

He is freaking garbage dude. Who cares how much he makes put him on the 3rd line with limited minutes or trade him. Team would get even better instantly

If we can upgrade Klein (#3 dman) and Legwand (1st/2nd line center), our team would be much better off. Nothing to complain about there.

As for Klein being a "solid #3", I strongly disagree. He is a #3 out of default and it's a major area of concern. He has been burned in the playoffs when we're having to face teams that have 2 legit scoring lines, such as Vancouver and Chicago. We might as well add Detroit and SJ as teams with two legit scoring lines.
