Man, if these boys truly wanted to avoid trades and stick with each other, they certainly ain't showing it. Talk about a bad time to start slumping, even if only a hiccup.

There's no such thing as a given in the NHL. You can't coach scared though.
It's a rival team. Totally different story. If this were the 25th place Blues, or the 25th place Leafs, I'd have no issues starting Biron. Again, though, the Islanders are a different team when they play us, and they've been playing well lately.

If Lundqvist is in, this in all likelihood is a 3-2 win, because that Parenteau shot doesn't go in. That said, the defense was porous tonight at times. First goal was horrific coverage by Richards and Callahan, second goal was Staal going off the ice for no particular reason, awful change. Third goal was weak coverage in front. All sloppy plays. They need to tighten up.

Guess who I saw walking out the door into the concourse?

GLEN SATHER!!!!! I had to look at him for a few seconds before I actually knew it was him. He was smiling too. As soon as I passed I figured out it was him. That was the highlight of the night. I also got a one of a kind signed puck by Mike Mottau!!!!!

I hate shootouts.

They should have started Lundqvist and put Biron in tomorrow.

Just got back from the game. I thought it was improvement over Tuesday's game in terms of controlling the puck and offense, but why John Mitchell??? I don't know if it got caught on camera, but I kept asking the people sitting around me "Why did they put Mitchell in the shootout???"

Just finished watching the game. Biron was awful. What a shame. Thought the rest of the team played well. Isles always play us hard but a couple weak goals by Biron lost us this one.

I've always been against trading Dubinsky, but lately I'm not so sure. I think Anisimov has real potential, I think Dubinsky has a much more limited upside. While Dubinsky may be a little more valuable now, especially in the playoffs, for the long run that I always look at, I'd rather keep Anisimoiv (even though I've been very critical of him).

I'm not anxious to mortgage the franchise for Nash though. Get back to the defensive style that has been so successful, win games 2-1, develop more young offensive talent as we go along. Next year, hopefully Richards will be better, we'll have Kreider, Hagelin will have a year under his belt, hopefully we can trade Mitchell, Wolski, etc for a bag of souvenir pucks.

It's embarrassing and a bit painful to think that John Mitchell is being relied upon in the last minute of regulation when behind, on the powerplay, and in the shootout.

What. The. ****.

i'm not so sure that they should stay pat. there is no guarantee that they come back next year as strong as they are now. no one ever expected this team to be where they are now. general consensus was 2 to 3 years and then they would contend for the cup. as much as i love the fact that they are building from within, i think the team might have a chance to possible steal one. i guess what i'm saying is that the team bite the bullet and make the deal for nash.

If he played tonight, it would have been his 3rd game in 5 days, but after tonight he would have had two days off until the devils game with zero travel since Tuesday night.

If Henrik played tonight and Monday -- that's only 4 games in 9 days with one travel day.

WTF?
This is the norm. Hank has been EXTREMELY lucky and hasn't had a big injury (or no injury right?) He's got 2004 in his eyes. He wants another cup as much as anyone. He's got a lot to prove.

But in the short term, he wanted Marty to come out and play better and rebound from the Blackhawks game. It didn't work. We can't seem to play in front of Biron lately.

Am I the only one who thought Biron got better as the night went on?

I thought he played a pretty sound game. He had one soft goal. The rest of them were all horrible defense breakdowns.

MDZ: wtf were you thinking?! I thought that play summed up how the Rangers played. Sloppy and stupid.

I know we're all going to blame Biron in the shootout (first goal was bad) but yet again...you go a mere 1/4 in the the shootout, you're not going to win much.

If it wasn't Mitchel, it would have been Stepan...who has been God awful in teh shootouts.

Then again, who isn't?

I honestly feel that tonight (since it's now Saturday) will be Dubi's final game as a Ranger.

John Mitchell got us on the PP.

Stepan is the one that made a STUPID and God awful penalty.

Again like I said earlier: we played sloppy and stupid. We got out hustled the entire game.

What annoys me is we have our scapegoats.

Right now it's Marty Biron. Everyone will say how awful he is and the masses will follow ensue. He didn't play as bad as everyone thinks he played. And I hate the argument Well, hank would have saved that!

Because you cannot predict something like that.

We're going to get on Richards case because he missed in the shootout and John Mitchell for "being on the ice" (even though he gave us a PP).

But we're going to ignore Staal's idiotic and lazy change that resulted in a goal.

We're going to ignore MDZ's idiotic stick play that resulted in a goal.

We're going to ignore the horrible defensive coverages on the first goal.

And we're going to ignore things like Step's idiotic penalty that nullified the PP.

I hate cherry picking. The team - as a cohesive unit - failed tonight.

agreed. But I can tell you (or at least have a damn good guess) that he doesn't feel as good as those saves. He KNOWS his flaws.

It's the most frustrating thing in the world when you know whats wrong and can't fix it.

Biron doesn't have the agility and reaction speed to make saves when he's positionally unsound. I thought he would have had the 5 hole problem improved upon since his last start and for that matter, since any one of his last 3 starts but apparently not. I'm just happy we're this is happening now with 82 points in hand instead of earlier on in the season.
This. He seems to be unable to stop anything 5-hole, it is just painful to watch. When I am convinced that I could score 5-hole on him there is something terribly wrong.
:note: I only really watched the shootout.

True. I think that Benoit is trying to fix it. The 'five hole' he let in during the game wasn't his fault at all. Dude was wide open on the side.

During the shootout? Sure. And I admit he needs to work on that.
With that being said: if you're not scoring on the shootout, it doesn't matter.

Because we will rip him for the 1st goal, but we're ignore that really nice save he had on the 3rd shot. Of the first 3 shots, one 1 got by. Can't really ask for more.

My analysis of this game is...

...well, actually... I make it a point to analyze Rangers/Islanders games. Very little applies to games that aren't Rangers/Islanders games.

indeed he did. but, another game with sv% under .900, another game with a goal through his 5-hole, another game where he couldnt bail the team out in front of him.

Nobody with a brain would put this one ONLY on Biron. He wasnt the sole reason, but the Rangers aren't good enough to be able to overcome even average goaltending.

This team wins 90%+ of its games thanks to the man between the pipes.

I think we are a little spoiled with just how good Henrik is.

Torts always says it, but we need to be better. This **** doesn't fly with me.

Richards is 0-8 in SO's
Biron's 5 hole is terrible
Sloppy start to the game, against a team we have no business losing to
Stupid penalty by Stepan (and a stupid rule on Del Zotto)
Dubinsky isn't doing much to help the team to be perfectly honest
Boyle...covert a ****ing chance already. Frustrated by him.

Not the end of the world, but really boys, pick it up.
