Never trade 2 stars in one package. You get much more dealing them separately.

Sure, but I'm thinking generally. I think there's like one Kings forward aquired through FA, and that's Westgarth. Others are drafted or trades, and these guy doesn't have much say in it.

this, I am guessing Howson wanted to trade them separately.. No 1 team can provide you with all of your needs on
a trade of that level.

So you would want to trade for two players who played a HUGE part of the blue jackets meantime they are in LAST FRIGGIN PLACE?

I think it was obvious that Nash and Carter are NOT the answer for any ONE team.

But then again, its LA so who the hell knows?!

Nash had a choice. You really think he would want to follow Carter to LA?

Westgarth was drafted too.

The top level free agents, the guys who really have a choice, aren't going to choose to go way out to LA. There isn't enough in it for them. Even if the Kings were a true contender every year, there are contenders in the east too. Unless the Kings offer substantially more money, or there is some other tie to the organization, why go all the way out there if the Rangers, Flyers, or Bruins(or almost any team in the east) want you and will pay you the same amount as the Kings can?

It's not just an LA thing though. Niedermayer doesn't go to Anaheim without his brother already there, and Fedorov went for money. Vancouver has never been a big FA destination, neither has San Jose, and those teams are as good as you get. Calgary has to give everyone a NMC to get them to sign there. Edmonton can't get anyone to go there. Phoenix gets the role players. Colorado, even when they were a machine, weren't the go-to place. Dallas used to give large chunks of money. Minnesota has signed a few guys here and there, but mostly they were from Minnesota, or they gave a lot of money.

I really wonder what that looked like.

To LA:
Nash
Carter

To CBJ:
Brown
Bernier
Johnson
Lotkionov
Penner
Forbert
1st

Thats a blockbuster

Gagne-Kopitar-Nash
Carter-Richards-Williams
King-Stoll-Lewis
Clifford/Fraser/Nolan/Westgarth

Scuderi-Doughty
Mitchell-Voynov
Martinez-Greene

Quick

If this team couldn't score then I know the Gretzky statue curse is real :lol

Are they really going to get a package from NY or SJ that is better than...

Brown
Bernier
Loktionov
Penner

I say the Kings still can offer the best deal for Nash.

Just to provide some substantiation in print, here's Pierre LeBrun's "quick thoughts" article from last night, in which he first mentioned the news:

But the Kings eventually dropped out of the Nash talks (he likely wasnít going to accept a deal to go to L.A.) and focused on Carter only. The feeling in the Kings front office was that Carterís lower cap hit -- $5.27 million compared to $7.8 million for Nash -- would allow them greater flexibility when it comes time to re-sign star goalie Jonathan Quick. His deal runs out after next season and heíll command a huge raise over his current $1.8 million salary.

All of this and it is still a mystery if he asked for a trade or what teams he put on his list.

All of this started by TSN and Sportsnet media who need everyone to tune in Monday. I said in the 4th or 5th thread that by today Howson will publicly state that Nash is going nowhere.

Calgary will lose tonight and TSN and Sportsnet will sell us on Iginla possibly moving.

When in actuality neither will be moved, neither asked for a trade, neither provided a list, but we all tuned in.

Intersting. You give your opinion and then analized your opinion as if it was a fact.

Sure enough, he was. Thinking he was a late round pick out of Princeton like Parros.

Interesting question, but why go to Toronto? Same thing, just in the Eastern Conference.

Nash would play with Richards, not Carter.

Kopitar+Brown for Nash.

I think Columbus is pretty high on Mark Dekanich, who signed as a free agent from Nashville. Al though he got hurt and hasn't played all year he is a top notch goalie prospect and will most likely get his shot next season.

If that doesn't pan out you would think they'd go after a goalie next season. But with how bad the team is this year it doesn't appear to be a rush to get someone.
