COACH & PLAYER QUOTES

(On getting Jeff Carter...) "I played against Jeff in junior. He’s a goal scorer and I think he’s definitely going to help our team in a lot of areas. He’s a big, strong, fast guy and he can shoot the puck. Guys are excited.”
(And what about giving up Jack?...) “I’ve played with Jack since he has come into the league, and I’ve seen him grow, year by year. He’s a good player. You’ve kind of got to give up something to get something in return. I talked to him a bit last night. He was as OK as you’re going to be when you get traded. I think he’s excited about the possibility of probably being `the guy’ in Columbus. I wish him the best of luck, and I’m sure he will be fine.”
(This time of year, with the deadline, does it get tense for guys?...) “It’s probably the same amount of pressure every year, I guess, depending on the team, if you’re a buyer or a seller, or maybe a little of both. It’s the same story every year. Players are going to be moved around this time, just like draft day. After you’ve been through it a few times, you understand that it’s a part of the business and you go about your business as a player, getting yourself ready to play games. Because, at the end of the day, we have two games here before the deadline that we need to win. We’re in a situation where we can’t be sitting back, wondering what’s going to happen or if someone is going to get moved. We have to worry about getting wins right now.”
(What about for you, with your name being out there now?...) “I can’t say you don’t think about it, but it’s more along the lines of getting here and getting on the ice and working on what I need to do to play well on Saturday. Ultimately, that’s my main focus, is being the best I can for every game. It’s the same thing every year, around this time. Your name gets thrown out there, other names get thrown out, and at the end of the day, you’ve got to get yourself ready to play. You can’t worry about stuff like that."

(on whether he actively wanted to play, after last night’s disappointment…)
“You always want to play. It doesn’t matter what happens. You always want to play. If you don’t want to play a game, you probably really don’t belong in this league. So, no matter what happens, you want to get back in there and you want to play.’’
(on the need for a strong final 21 games…) “Obviously we’re still right there. We still can make up ground and move up. That’s all we’re focused on. Obviously we didn’t play well tonight. We didn’t play nearly as well as we should have. As disappointing as that is, there are still 20 games left, a quarter of the season left to go, and we’re still in the mix. We need to play better."

When you get older, you want to stay somewhere where you think you’ve got a shot at winning. The nucleus of the team is a really, really good group, good players, and that’s a big reason why I re-signed here. I think it’s a group that’s capable of winning. Like I said, once you play a little bit, that becomes first and foremost for you, as far as being where you can have a shot at winning. I’m just looking forward to doing the same kinds of things. Obviously with a new acquisition, hopefully we can score some more goals and head into the playoffs on a hot streak, work our way in to get there.’’
(Deciding not to test free-agency market this summer...) “You’re only human, you think about that a little bit, but I’ve enjoyed my time here, enjoyed my teammates, enjoyed the team. I think it’s a team that’s got a really good nucleus, that’s got a shot at winning in the next couple years. When you play a little while, that becomes first and foremost, just having a shot at the Stanley Cup. You can go that (free-agency) route, but it’s very unpredictable where you could end up. For me, I’ve played a little while and it’s all about winning. I want a Cup. I don’t have that. A couple guys around here do, and I hear the stories, I hear everything. I’ve been to the conference finals, but that’s what drives me and that’s what motivates me, on the — I wouldn’t say latter half — but the later stages of my career. That’s what I want to accomplish, and I think we’ve got some good people around here and we can get that accomplished. We’ve just got to win some games down the stretch here and get into the playoffs. Obviously we’re fighting with a bunch of teams, but I’ll bet you if you polled any of the top teams, if we snuck in around eighth or seventh — or even still challenging San Jose — I don’t think teams want to play us (in the first round). So we’re just looking to focus on the game here against Chicago, a team that’s obviously one of the better teams in the league. They’ve had their ups and downs this year, but we need a big win tonight and get rolling to where we should be, in the top eight. We’ve got to work for it, though, but I feel confident we’re going to do that down the stretch."

He’s a good player and he’s easy to play with, so it won’t take us long to get that chemistry back. … He’s playing well right now. I watched the last couple of his games. He had a hat trick against San Jose the other night, and he’s playing well right now. He had a little bit of injuries earlier in the year, but he’s back right now. He’s said he’s healthy and excited to get started. He’s a motivated kid, coming in here, so it will be good.’’
(Any idea, before the trade happened, that it might happen? ...) “No. I was asked (by Kings management) about Jeff yesterday morning a little bit, and what type of guy he is off the ice. That’s the only time I heard about it.’’
(Do you think Jeff can get that high-level scoring back? ...) "I guess we’ll never know until we start playing and start getting adjusted. That’s the bad thing about hockey. I’ve been through it, with a trade, and that’s the tough part, but at the same time, we need goal scoring and hopefully we can do it.’’
(How did you feel when you heard about the trade?...) “We’re excited. It’s something that obviously we didn’t expect, when we got traded in the summer, but it’s nice to have him back. He’s a good hockey player and obviously a good friend, and hopefully we can have success together on the ice.’’
(What was your conversation with him like last night?...) “It was just through text messages. He was busy and had a lot going on, but he was excited and I was excited. It will be nice when he gets here tonight and plays tomorrow."

Obviously I’ve got to do a better job of getting them ready, when we come in late like that (the night before).’’
(on Quick facing early pressure…) “Really, they didn’t have a lot of chances. I didn’t think about it like that. They’ve got a great set of forwards. You’ve got to try to saw that off, and I don’ think we were on that early.’’
(on starting Quick again…)
“Well, there’s two ways of looking at it. You don’t say anything (to Quick) and you tell the other guy (he’s playing). or you talk to him and find out. That’s what I did, and he wanted it.’’
(on whether he was worried about a hangover from the Phoenix loss…) “Yeah. We talked about it this morning and made the decision not to come over here (for a morning skate). You know what time we got in. Quite honestly, I thought we’d get through the first period and we would be all right, and we weren’t able to."

- UPCOMING SCHEDULE -

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

The last two games I attended the Kings scored a total of ZERO goals.

They can't do worse than that.

I hope.

Todays game will have a huge impact on what happens tomorrow and Monday. Penner is in the line up, Stoll back at center, Brown back at first line LW, probable defense alignment for rest of season and with expanded roster after TDL - is Gagne a real possibility to return or will he go on LTIR in order to clear a little cap room.

Kings 4 (includes/eng) - Blackhawks 2
