Am I mad about not getting Nash? Not at all. I'm I livid that GMGM won't do anything that will improve this team that takes balls to do. So sick and tired of seeing band aids put on problems that are as serious as an amputation.
They can add something like $11M in full-season cap hits. If they sent someone like Dubinsky the other way, they could easily add Wideman.
But I'd imagine the assets they'd need to get Wideman would already have gone to Columbus.
i must not be paying attention or looking at this the right way. the caps could make the playoffs and play the rangers in the first round. the caps want to trade wideman to a team they could meet in the playoffs?

Or they could miss out entirely and potentially have all those UFAs walk. Risk meet risk. Sure, they do have some prospects but they're not exactly flush organizationally (hello Keith Aucoin!).
It's asset management. While they're not likely to sell off entirely, they would stupid at this point not to at least listen to what teams would offer. Without 19 this team is mediocre at best. If McPhee's place is secure then he should be looking to shake this team up at the deadline and better position the team for the long-term. Wideman is probably their most realistic valuable trade chip. If the Rangers offer the most up and it's too good to refuse then so be it.
Falling clean out, and you sell. Gain a spot and establish separation and you buy.
Right now? On the bubble of the division and the eighth seed? Tough call. They play one good game, have two bad ones, two OK games, then rinse and repeat. No consistency. McPhee has a lot of his mind. The rest of the division/East leaves a spot wide open.
Sharks fan here... Whats the current thought on Knuble? He's had an off year thats for sure, but could it also be a result of the teams struggles in general?
I would like him in SJ. I watched him a bunch on the Flyers and he always looked solid to me.
How do the Sharks feel about Petrecki at this stage of his development? Knowing nothing but what I knew pre-draft, I'd love to add him.

lots of if's in there.
something else that hasnt been mentioned. win or lose tonight the caps are in the playoff hunt. once you are in anything can happen. the signal mcphee and leonsis send to the team if they trade off top players is pretty clear. it isnt a good one

The same message the team has been sending to the fans/GMGM/ownership all year.....

...and what if it's coupled with some buying?
I can't see this team making it, let alone going on a run without fortifications up front.
Wideman arguably isn't even a top player with Green back. If he's the biggest subtraction and it's coupled with a top six center non-rental then it's a pretty easy sell from pretty much any angle IMO provided the acquisition cost is reasonable.
