Not sure what's the point of that tweet. Marinaro actually never said that he was fired. Just said that he was on a tighter leash.
i don't either, except that Molson is probably nervous this type of news might hinder his "plan" of being the master puppet.
Him talking about it right after, is just more sign he knows we all know
every actions would pass through the Molson before it is accepted?
If true, I think it would mean basically that Gauthier is on his way out, and all trade deadline decisions are being overseen by Habs brass, advisors or something of that nature.
If true, I would guess Gauthier is more than a figurehead for the time being. The guy would have to be making the calls still, or else this would have been leaked before.
Fans: "Sources say Gauthier was busy attending the premiere of the Goon last night. Just a rumor though."
Molson: "Rumors are false. I am not Celine Dion's brother."
Either way, Gauthier is out of a job whether it's at this moment or at the end of the season. I am sort of split between when that happens. Although it couldn't happen sooner, bringing in a new GM or trusting Gainey with two days left seems too risky. At the end of the day though, once this season ends, I cannot WAIT to see Gauthier go.

Anyway, that organization has a guy who actually fired a coach less than 2 months after naming him his best move ever....Pretty sure those people can actually say whatever they want, they won't be taken too seriously....

Exactly.
Another possibility is that someone in the organization misinformed him of the rumour.
Either way, I can't believe the idiocy of the heads of this franchise sometimes.
No he didn't. Whatever role you are playing, he is still employed. Not fired.
That's like saying that Martin's still employed so he has a say in the coaching.
If what ******* Marinara is saying is TRUE (which I doubt), that mean's that Gauthier is doing nothing and it's all molson and gainey and the rest of the stooges.
As MathMan said, Gauthier was a good GM and has constantly made good moves (Kaberle, Markov are the exceptions I KNOW I KNOW). If he's a figurehead, that's too bad.
I only hope the next GM is great, because we're heading toward mediocrity if we have a meddling owner, no coach and no superstars.

And we're in 28th place in the league. I dread to think where we would be if Gauthier didn't CONSTANTLY make good moves.
Anymore of Guathier's good moves and we would be relegated to teh AHL.
This is so dumb. I think everyone figure that Molson will evaluate PG and make decision at seasons end, so almost every move is run by the owner. Molson said it himself when he bought the club that he won't play a role but he will ask for the reasoning behind trades, said after Laraque was sent packing.
And with the way the season has gone, I do think Molson is paying more attention, but all owners are around this time.
To say Molson is the GM is stupid, and a joke, laughable really.
To those that say oh it's Gainey running the show, while he has had a role the whole time, him are PG are pretty close, and when Gainey stepped down, he said it himself in that he was "leaving the team he loved most to the man he trusted most".
All in all Tony is just trying to get attention, he was probably told that PG was told to be a seller and not make any major changes and Tony wants to make this big deal, and when/if PG is replaced, Tony is going to be talking about he was right, even though it doesn't seem like it is.
All I want to know is who is the idiot that made the Kaberle trade.
Hey didn't you know? The Kaberle trade is great, he's got tons of points with us. Which means he's great d-man. Which has to mean that we will surely be able to trade him for a 1st round pick. Can't wait!
Seriously, everything is Gauthier. At worst, he's being checked real closely. But nobody says that Gauthier is now selling hot-dog.

I really don't think Gainey has that much input anymore, one thing I have learned about the Molson family, they are proud of the Canadiens tradition and want to keep that tradition alive, thus keeping Gainey as an advisor the past few years, if anything they will never embaress a person like Bob Gainey, by firing him, however he has served his time, and Geoff Molson is not the sole owner, there are other partners with deep pockets and views, they have had enough of this circus with the last half of the Ottawa intelligensia.
The good thing is, it sounds like new direction will be coming after the season, can't come soon enough, I said in the past, that once the Martin/Gauthier combo was canned, people would realize what a mess the team is in, we're finding out soon enough

I'm not a fan of Kaberle but how can you say he is worthless. The devils just gave up a lot for Zidlicky who is just as bad as Kaberle defensively, but stopped producing offensively, even with an extra year and 250k more, I bet the Devils would have rather traded those assets for Kaberle not Zidlicky.
