Third in the West. Might even tune into the Shorks game and jump on the Nashville Smashville bandwagon.

Oilers are are a pretty good team at home. They were 16-10-4 going into today's game. (If those numbers look familiar, they should because that's also the Yotes' home record this year.)

They didn't have much jump today and seemed affected by the start time -- they just haven't played many day games this year. If they make the playoffs, West teams can play at some funky times so these are good to have.

Anyway, not much energy, but they did what you have to do on the road. They got the first one and then played defense with their bodies not their sticks. One penalty in 60 minutes is what you need to do on the road when you're not playing your strongest game on a road trip.

IMO, we have a very disciplined team. Take off Torres, and our penalty minutes are pretty darn low.

With that, I LOVE the addition of Torres. He plays a style of hockey that our team needed IMO. He skates hard and hits hard, and he also makes some darn good plays with the puck. I know not everyone will agree with me, but I was super stoked when we added him, and I still sit with that attitude.

With that, we came out and started off much better today than we did against the Kings and the Flames. I can't complain. Might not have been our best game, but it wasn't our worst that for sure. 2 points in regulation against another Western Conference opponent, I'll take that any day.

Dustin Brown has 2 goals in the 1st period. Don't know if this game either keeps him in LA past the deadline or increases his trade value.

It counters the intent to score I guess

Vermette was a plus 2. Looked very good skating with the puck on that line. Made one bad pass while in the offensive zone I noticed that sent the Oilers the other way. Can be a bit lost, confused or hesitant in the defensive zone when he gets back there. But this is all nit picky. He reminds me a lot of Lombardi, except Vermette has an idea of what to do with the puck.

I like that we're gradually giving more ice time to Summers-Stone. Last couple games the top four guys have been goin above 22/24min a game. Was a bit lower this game. As much as I root for Stone/Summers, we need someone experienced back there. If ONE of ours Dmen who are MIA return, that would help immensely. We could potentially get three guys back by the end of the year.

It'll be interesting to see if we put in a claim for Clitsome - and if anyone above us in the pecking order claims him.

This is a bit OT, but can someone explain the origins of "Hanzal is so hot right now"?

But on a more serious note, Hanzal's offensive game is starting to come around this season. If he played 82 games this season, he would be on pace for 49 points. I don't feel like he's holding back Whitney and Vrbata anymore.

Its hard to believe Hanzal only got 10 assists last season. That was such an anomaly.

He's been solid - I think it is just the size thing. The wingspan gets to and keeps pucks alive in the corners, and both Whitney and Vrbata are solid with the pucks along the boards. It plays into our hands very well, and Hanzal really works well in our system.

I still haven't seen the "switch" go on for Vermette quite yet - he is getting some chances, but also looks a little timid out there. I'm waiting another 3-4 games before I expect him to flip that on automatic - he'll have had enough practice time and games with us by then...

Great win! keep rolling team. Blubba, you can't stop making gdt now I hope you know.

I'm liking how well rounded the team is and how even through injuries the team is doing their part. Young guys are getting experience and the veterans will hopefully make it back in time for the playoffs with some freshness in their legs.

He's just fine. 2 posts, 1 disallowed "dirty" goal and some very nifty passing is more than I could have asked for in 2 games.

Haha, it's fine, I don't mind making them. I get the impression that people are willing to tolerate them because of the results.

Na Blubba, we appreciate them because we don't have to do it ourselves...haha.
I think Vermette is fitting in pretty well for the first two games, he could have three goals as well as none, his instincts are to go in around the net where goals are found, he plays well without the puck opening up ice and is responsible in the defensive zone, I think he is going to do well in this system.
I would like to see him lined up with Brule and see how that works, this team is not being taken lightly by anyone right now, nine out of ten against no real softies says something in Feb.
bring on the Sharks..
