the most they could get for St.Louis would be Anisimov, Yogan, and a conditional 2nd/3rd

Exactly right. It's not like the window of opportunity to compete for a cup in the future is closing on us.

Don't care about St. Louis' contract...he just keeps on going...great player. I'm all for it!

I'd be open minded on that deal. St. Louis looks like he can be productive until he's 40 yrs old.

I think Howson's best change of a solid return is before the deadline.
Seriously, this is patently obvious to anyone with half a brain. Everything you posted is 100% correct - and you left out the fact that the impending CBA negotiations would likely make teams MORE conservative, not less, come the summer.

It takes some serious self delusion to convince oneself that one could get a better deal in the summer than right now.

Because Nash is the face of the franchise, paid close to 12% of their cap by himself and will influence every other player in the locker room. Because he will likely start to give less and less effort on the ice (and who can blame him) and create distractions in the press. Because UFAs will see that Nash was a good soldier for close to a decade, was professional when they put him on the market... and then got screwed - and, as a result, CLB will consequently gain a rep as a team that ****s their players, which is exactly what you want when you're already about 26th on the list of where most players want to play.

Can he technically force a trade? Absolutely not. They can send him back out there game after game for 6 more years.

Will not trading him have a detrimental effect on the franchise? Um, yes.

We'll only be better in the future with Kreider/Erixon/further development frm our youth. Stepan looks like a star in the making, and our D should keep improving(scary thought..they're already one of the best in the league).

Hey, if Parise decides to buddy up with Suter and they both sign with the Red Wings as a package deal, we might as well fold up our tent.

As much as I want Nash, I just don' think that's necessarily true. Osi in football didn't get traded and played his ass off. However, he was playing for a contract, so it's a bit different.

He's old. You can't get a lot for a guy who is 36. Doesn't matter what their production is.

Big pass on St. Louis. Too old and his contract is too long.

Stolen from the thread on the trade forum, "David Boclair of the Nashville City Paper:

Confirmed tonight that Nashville has made a 'massive' offer for Nash, rumored to include Colin Wilson, Ryan Ellis, Anders Lindback and high picks."

3 years is too long? Nash's contract is 1 trillion times worse than St.Louis. And St. Louis is on pace for more points at age 36 than Nash's career high. IMHO, we want a cup now without sacrificing the future, MSL is the way to go.

I don't think Nash wants to go to Nashville, so they won't have to.

Nashville isn't on any publicly known list, but I would have to imagine they're enough of a contender that he might wave his NMC for them anyway. As for the package, that's an absurd package. That's two very highly rated prospects, a good young goalie, and draft picks.

Wilson and Ellis could legitimately turn out to be 1st liner/1st pair. Lindback could turn out to be a starter, although something tells me that he won't be.

Colin Wilson had a fantastic start to the year offensively, but has since tapered off. In fact, it kinda feels that way for the entire Preds team, even though they've still been winning (sound familiar?). There's a lot to like about Ellis. Potential very solid all-around D, great with the puck. Needs some polishing and development. 22 and 21 respectively. Think of it as trading Anisimov and McDonagh last year.

Lindback's save pct is way down in his second year in the league, which is always concerning. It means that there's a book on him now.

That's almost as much as an overpay as the Flyers did for Lindros.

Also, let's not forget that Nashville needs to go to great lengths to convince Weber and Suter that they're serious about contending if they want those two guys to resign.

Losing Lindbach won't be the end of the world for them either since Rinne is so freaking good.
