if we dont sign him and keep Carle instead it would be a epic facepalm of epic preportions
I have a funny feeling once Coburn signed his extension and Carle is still without one this deep into the season, he won't be back. I would want Grossman back, but we need more time to fully evaluate him I say. It would be a real good trade then if we sign him to a new deal
lol. Overreaction city. Guy scores a goal after a game where he had a bunch of mindnumbingly bad passes and turnovers and our fans want him signed long-term ASAP.
Brilliant.
Can't we give it like I dunno at least 10 games before we jump to decisions?

I didn't notice his mistakes, and I mean that in the sense that I'm surprised I didn't. What were the notables?

I don't take down the times of poor decisions or bad passes, but he certainly had a few poor giveaways. I found myself angry with him at a couple points in the game, but he wasn't nearly as bad as Carle or Kubina.
All in all he played a pretty good game, but all I'm saying is that a lot of Dallas fans were fine seeing him leave and he had generally poor stats (advanced and regular) there. I'd like to see more than 4 games before I make a snap judgement about resigning him.

Hahaha. Reminds me of Denis Gauthier. We traded for him March 9th and he played 7 games as a Flyer before signing a 3 year extension for 2.1 million per year (a bigger number given the salary cap was much smaller then). The extension was also signed after the Rangers game where Gauthier had that famous huge hit on Straka.
But yeah, a perfect example of why teams should lock those players up before they hit 10 games haha

His goal is not the reason why I liked his game. He played DEFENSE very well. Kubina did too.

So, he was basically the player he's been billed as all along. Not a guy you want with the puck on his stick, but we knew that when we acquired him.

I'm sure Grossman will be back.
As far as Carle is concerned, Suter is the key. If they sign Suter, they'll have to let Carle go.
Unless Nashville resigns him right after the season, I'm sure Homer will try to acquire Suter's rights before the draft. If Suter doesn't go UFA, Homer will have to resign Carle.
Given the lack of any other good puckmoving D coming UFA, they pretty well have to sign Carle.
I'm ok with keeping him around, but we really have to develop some d-men in house. For the cheap cap hit. Having your 6 d-men all be free agent signings or veterans trade acquisitions is not great cap management. I'm not even saying we have to develop a stud, just a guy like Gus or Bartulis being an adequate third pairing guy would be better than continually paying $3-4m a year for third pairing d-men.

They all made mistakes even Kimmo. But the guy looks to me as being a keeper. I said that when we picked him up having watched hin in Dallas. He is 27 and has some good years ahead of him. Lock him up when he is ready. His cap hit should not be bad. I do not no what game you were looking at. He did not look like a bumbling idiot to me on the ice
Grossman was very, very good in Dallas in his first two seasons. He was playing as a 2# defenseman. He's got the smarts and calm to keep things simple in the back-end. The amount of mistakes he covered for Coburn was amazing.
Carle on the other hand is clearly the player leaving this off-season. He doesn't fit without Pronger. He had at least 5 turn-overs.

Yes you are right. I want to sign him because he is a scorer.

I also didn't notice too many bad plays from Grossman. Kubina and Carle for sure, but I can't remember one from Nic.
Character players try harder every single day if they are not signed for next season. So the lack of a contract may encourage him to play even better for the remainder of the year, same for Kubina.
I don't see why they need to take the risk of throwing too much money at the wrong guy now just for the sake of possibly saving 100K on a contract. Both Grossman and Kubina seem to be happy to be here. They can let them play at least a dozen of games before even thinking about next year.
I like what I've seen too...big guy, not that slow, uses his size effectively and makes good basic plays at both ends...but it's premature to rush to sign him. I mean, if he's willing to take a 3-5 yr at $2 mil or less per yr, sure...deal...but I think we should see him some more before paying what he'll probably be asking.

No chance he goes for $2 Million or lower. I'm hoping he settles for 3.
