Are fans of other teams allowed to start threads on boards that aren't their own? If so, feel free to delete, Mods. I'm not here to troll, though, genuinely wanted to hear Blues fand opinions on this topic, and will be respectful of this board's rules & opinions.
... SO, it sounds like the Ottawa Senators (my team) are about to acquire Ben Bishop for a draft pick, as per your own Andy Strickland:
Quote:
The Senators and Blues appear to be closing in on a deal that would send the 6'7 Ben Bishop to Ottawa. The Blues are likely to get a draft pick in return.
Ottawa won't pull the trigger on the deal until they know Bishop will sign an extension to stay beyond this season. A one-year, one-way deal will likely be agreed to.
It appears the Blues are ok with allowing Ottawa to speak to Bishop before the deal is completed. Art the very least a verbal agreement will be made.
What are your thoughts, Blues fans? I'm pleased to add him, especially considering just how terrible Alex Auld has been for us this year.
Strickland said it would be for a pick, and I know a lot of Blues fans have said a 3rd round pick would be a suitable dowry for Bishop's bride-rights (haha). I agree in that sense. Keeping in mind that it's completely speculation on the price, did some want more than a 3rd rounder? Expect less?
It seems as though this might be a trade that works out well for both sides, from what I can tell, Bishop wasn't going to be retained so getting a moderately high draft pick sounds pretty good?
Wish you guys all the best in the playoffs. Love seeing Elliott rebound this year, he deserves it.
*edit*
Or just merge this thread with the official "he's been dealt" thread, he was traded while I was typing this, haha.
Done deal but what round pick the Blues received and what year has not been disclosed. The more I thought about it I think the Blues may have been able to get a second round pick if part of the deal is the Senators sign Bishop to an extension.
You guys got a very nice (albeit delayed) pick, and we got a dependable NHL-caliber backup for the next while, and we ca let Lehner develop properly, without rushing him to the NHL and risk spoiling his high upside.
Well done, gents. A deal both sides can agree to? A rare occurrence in today's NHL.

I hope he succeeds for you guys. Really think all he needed was an opportunity which it appears he'll now get

i think i may be in the minority here but i felt like bishop could really have done well here both as a solid backup or even starter and a home town boy.
with the way the blues have been playing defense and how the team is moving forward with hitch, i thought he could have been a great asset here.
the problem was both our goalies are here to stay and are playing so well it would have been at least 2 years before he even had the chance to get a role here unless there was a major injury.
i think that we gave him a chance to play at the NHL level with this trade and i wish him the best.
Would much rather have seen Bishop packaged with some other futures for a forward with sniping ability. This ownership thing is killing our ability to make a serious move....Ho Hum trade deadline...Hate to be the downer here but without a move at forward we are destined for a 2nd round exit barring an act of God.

Nope I agree with you. I would have liked to have dangled Elliott and given Bishop the opportunity here. Either way, glad he gets a chance.
