I think it would be a terrible mistake to trade Plekanec, especially for a winger. If he goes we'll have no centers that belong in the top six and the one strength of this team, the penalty kill, would be drastically weakened.
Plekanec only goes if we package him for elite center or 1st line young center like duchene. I say duchene knowing he's untouchable but either it's for a franchise like player or a young key center that will add to the young core of max, PK, subban, Eller, dd and make us perennial playoff locks.
Well there were rumors a couple of days ago out of Colorado that Duchene might be available
But Colorado would be dumb to make that move and would never do so.
No one is untouchable. I love Pleks, but for the right price.
For those dreaming of Nash, keep dreaming. For Pleks to waive his NTC it would have to be a team in contention. Therefore we're talking draft picks and prospects.
If he goes the only stipulation I'd need would be that it be a bigger package with Gomez/Kaberle going too.

Reason: more to say
"Plekanec has been a part of 18 different line combinations. The longest stretch for any of those lines to play together was 11 games when he was between Michael Cammalleri and Brian Gionta."
Give the guy real linemates instead of **** like Darche. Unless we get an offer we can't pass up it would be stupid to trade Plekanec.
Like who? You can't break up the only good line on this team in order to try to get pleks going. And in most yrs the Gio-Pleks-Cammy line should've been a pretty good line but for some reason this yr all three have been struggling.
If trading Pleks allows us to get bigger, better and younger I'm all for it.
If he gets traded, it will be this summer by the new GM. Trading Plekatchu right now would mean that Pierre Gauthier is here to stay. And from the looks of everything that's coming out of the media outlets, including TVA, RDS and TSN, La Presse and others, Gauthier will be gone. So a Pleks trade would be a indication of things to come.
The only way that getting rid of Plekanec makes sense is if management has decided to go the rebuild route instead of the re-tool option.
If that's the case might as well cash-in on Cole as well.
That's an obscene claim. He's a serviceable 1b, and would be a perfect 2nd line centre for a serious team. I've been saying Desharnais is better than him for a while now, so I'd be open to trading him and drafting Grigs. Run DDH, Grigs and Eller next year.
Drafting somebody like Galchenyuk or Grigorenko could finally put Plekanec into the role he's best suited for, and we're considering trading him now? Unless the return blows me away, I'll probably be disappointed.
If it's Washington, let's just hope it's not Semin coming our way.
Every team in the NHL know that he is soft and dont show up when it counts, so dont expect an elite prospect for him.
His playoff points-per game is .04 less than his regular season points-per-game. That's not amazing but he plays at about what you'd expect.
Trading Plekanec for magic beans would turn what has been a bad season into a disastrous one. Tough-minutes centres are difficult to find. One of the reasons the Habs overpaid for Gomez was it's hard to find top-6 centres. Trading Plekanec opens up a massive hole. The only worse move would be to trade Subban.
I hope he's not traded, so underrated and part of the short-sighted, let's throw as many people as we can under the bus mentality that this frustrating season has brought. He has multiple uses and his softness is just an hfboards myth. This guy gets under peoples skin just shutting them down. Ugh.

Seriously. Guy has performed well for having mediocre linemates. Trading Pleks would mean we'd put Eller as a #2, who I'm sure he'll eventually be very good but not sure if he's ready. Unless we draft a center and put him on the top lines, which is risky with new players. Edmonton isn't much further after all those top picks. Most here only look at stats and think this is NHL '12.
You guys are silly. We've had essentially 3 second line centres this year. Plek makes 5 million and Desharnais makes a little over a million. Deal Plek for something valuable and then acquire a first line centre in offseason.
Plekanec in a deal for Huberdeau sign me up but if our first is in the deal no way.
Only if the habs gets a good offer for Plekanec i would trade him but not if they get a low ball offer there is no reason for the habs to get rid of Plekanec.
