Should we trade for Nash?

Pros:

-Nash is an elite forward
-He is a quality sniper
-He might perform better with the [relatively] better forwards we have here.
-He might be able to convince W & S to stay here (or at least one of them).

Cons:
-He has a 7.8M cap hit (think if Suter and Weber resigned, that would be 30M+ tied in four players = not smart by any means).
-His contract runs to 2018.
-His last (and only) playoff performance was not great
-There's no assurance that Weber and/or Suter will resign.

The thing that people forget is the salary cap situation, if Suter and Weber resign, it won't be for pennies. If you look at the salary cap distribution on forwards on cup winning teams (like Boston), they do not pay their players with gum.

His contract actually runs until 2018

JAHF, I'm going to leave this up as a separate poll unless you just really want it merged into the other Nash thread. I think they are exclusive topics and both are valid

I say yes especially if the cost is the offer being circulated. As bright as wilsons future is if we have nash until 2018 then we will likely still have the better player for the next 5 years at least. Laakso was never gonna be a factor here, and ellis is only a big loss if suter and weber both leave, which if they aren't lying hypocrites, they won't do once we get Nash.

I would hate to give up wilson at this point. He is finally started to become that awesome power forward we drafted him to be. I wouldn't mind giving up ellis, blum, draft picks, or bottom six roster players. Would they want SK74 or Horny?

Let's not overinflate Wilson. He's not likely to even hit 20 goals this season.

We're talking about someone that has not only hit 30 in six of the last eight season, but hit 51 and tied for the Richard trophy at one point.

I like Wilson and all, but he's becoming so overrated it's ridiculous.

Probably just a mis-type on your part, but Nash's goal-scoring high is 41, then 40, then 38... Not too shabby at all.

agreed .. but combine it with ellis, lindback, multiple 1st round picks .. and the price is suddenly way too high. not to mention the cap hit that will cripple us if we sign the big 3 as well. we're not a cap team. I dont care what the owners say.. you have to look at the numbers imo

the cap hit is fine if we are willing to spend near the cap.

Wilson is tough to let go until you realize that we are directly replacing him with Nash, and barring something unforeseen, Nash is likely to be much better than Wilson for at least 5 more years... we won't miss him at all as long as Nash plays like Nash..

Lindback won't be missed. we have Rinne for 7 more years.(if he's even in the deal)

Laakso... fugghedaboudit

Ellis... again, no big loss unless both Suter and Weber both leave. if the re-sign, he would be leaving us like Hamhuis did in another 2-3 years.

Picks... schmicks.... we have hoarded picks and prospects for years to get to exactly this point... a point at which it is unequivocally a time to think "NOW" not "LATER"

GO FOR IT POILE!!!!

NO. Nash has a horrible contract, and Columbus want's too much for him.
