Dallas management has to be honest with themselves and admit that this isn't a perfect team or even a serious contendor for the cup. If there's a good deal to be had which will set this team up for the future it has to be made.
It would be foolish not to trade Ott to Vancouver, if they had the best offer just so you don't have to face him. You accept the best offer out there regardless of what division or if it's a possible playoff opponent. It's not like this team is a contender for the cup.
I don't know what the hell they'd want to do with Ott. I think Downie is more gifted than Ott offensively and the dude seems like an agitator. Admittedly I don't watch him a lot so I'm going off of reputation.
I'd rather they move Robi before Ott. Maybe deal them both to Vancouver for Hodgson (I can dream) and a Vancouver salary dump.
I predict 1 desperate team will make a largely lateral move with Dallas that hurts their center depth but allows them to acquire JVR. I'm going wait on a ledge instead of my usual pretty conservative approach.
Nashville is desperate to make a big move IMO to persuade Suter and Weber to commit long term. The GM has already said they are willing to move assets.
IMO, Jonathon Blum should be available. I'm probably biased, but I think Larsen is probably better than Blum. I think you make a trade with Nashville to acquire him so that you can offer Blum or Larsen up with Ott to land JVR. I think Phili fans are probably right that Glennie won't get it done. They all feel like a young D is what the demands will be.
Key Principles of the Trade
To Dallas: Jonathon Blum
To Nashville: Mike Ribeiro
To Dallas: JVR
To Philadelphia: Steve Ott, Philip Larsen or Jonathon Blum
Trying to Predict the trade
To Dallas: Jonathon Blum, Zach Budish, Nashville's 1st
To Nashville: Mike Ribeiro
To Dallas: JVR, Jody Shelly
To Philadelphia: Steve Ott, Philip Larsen or Jonathon Blum, DAL or NAS 1st
Yes Dallas hurts their center depth by moving Ribeiro without adding one, but they add a Top 6 scorer to the core long term. Larsen for Blum is a lateral move most likely. If one of them helps you land JVR, I could see Dallas do it. You're not risking defensive depth since you're bringing one guy in before flipping him for a potential core winger. Phili would have to send another contract with JVR since they receive 2 contracts, and IMO being willing to take Shelly off their hands adds value to the trade. He is a waste in Phili and will likely be the same in Dallas. I don't think Wandell has earned a 2nd line center role this year in reality, but he's good enough to fill in if you are improving yourself long term with JVR.
To Dallas: Michael Frolik
To Chicago: Adam Burish
To Dallas: 2nd Round Pick
To NHL Team: Sheldon Souray
Acquire Clitsome off waivers
I think Dallas takes a risk with Bottom 6 depth to try and acquire a guy who appears to be overpaid and under performing. GMJN does it because he's familiar with the player and thinks a bigger role will get him back to normal.
I think/hope Souray is in the same boat as Grossman. I'm probably reaching, but GMJN and Gully said trading Gross was not just an opportunity for Fistric for a bigger role but for Pardy to get going. With Souray return very soon to the lineup when those comments were made, that's not true unless he's going packing as well.
If Souray is traded, Clitsome is acquired as the 7th D to provide competition with Pardy.
