exactly.

Top 3 pick and I'm very happy. Even more if we get a top-2 but I'm not counting on it without the lottery.

Markov coming back and inform would fix the habs defense,
a subban, gorges, markov and emelin top 6 is good as long as we get two solid defensemen as 5 and 6, and diaz can be the 7th guy.

Offensively, keep Plekanec, Cole, Pac, Desharnais,Eller,Moen,Gionta. Again, get another real 3rd line guy, and get a good 2nd line winger.

Kostitsyn, Bourque, pathetic.

Yeah, it's changed now.

Can't wait for the dominoes to fall. Now off to watch an award show honoring a whole bunch of movies I didn't see this past year.

Problem is that they won't do anything with that D. Subban, Gorges and Emelin are keepers. Markov comes back. Who wants Kaberle? Will they trade Diaz? Weber might go in a D'Agostini for Palushaj trade to accomodate him. But chances are you have room for 1 change. But maybe not even 1 change.

Up front....what change do you see? DD-Pac-Cole. Pleks-Bourque-Gionta. Will they move Gionta or Bourque? Obviously not. Then you have Eller, Blunden, Darche, Gomez, Leblanc, Moen, Nokelainen, Palushaj and White for the reamaining 6 spots. Who wants Gomez? If not, will they really ship him in Hamilton? I don't see this. Eller, Leblanc, Moen and White aren't going anywhere. Unless they are stupid enough to abandon already with Lars. So there are 2 spots for the rest....We all think Darche will be back. Why wouldn't they give another shot to Blunden? So at one point, this squad would remain intact minus, 1, 2 or 3 guys I wouldn't be suprised. Scary isn't it?

You know what. What if Gomez was back next year?

We all know this team management likes the "nice guy" type of players. Gomez is a nice guy and has two more years on his contract.

I hope I'm wrong but the way they are doing things, who knows...

Why not? He's scored once every 15 or 20 games this season and he was due for another.

Finally the luck was there, subban has to have the worse luck i've ever seen. so many shots hit the post, hit goalie when goalie doesn't even know where the puck is.

We've lost so much lately yet the teams ahead of us aren't really pulling ahead either, sigh. Moar losses!

Exactly. I've heard posters talk of late 1st rd draft picks for AK. We'll be lucky to get a 3rd of 4th. I have a feeling next year's going to be just as painful.

The "lack of effort" line is going to be used again, but the problem isn't there. The problem is that the Habs simply do not play in a way where they will usefully control the puck. So they're always chasing, always getting there too late, always looking like they're doing nothing when the problem is that they're doing the wrong thing. Always the same, always simplest play, always easy to adjust to.

The team's lack of a transition game is completely, utterly sad and it's all because they don't even try. They have only one play to get it out of the zone, and once Florida took that away they were able to bottle the Habs in their own zone pretty much permanently.

Meanwhile, they don't have an offensive zone scheme that's able to prevent Florida from simply collecting their dump-in and turning it around. They just try to bang bodies down low even if the puck is long gone.

Oh, and how many pointless long pass attempts have there been? Most of those resulted in needless turnovers. I've even seen the Habs, with the puck in their zone and no pressure for once, attempt a three-line pass rather than skate with it. Predictably, it failed. It's like the stretch pass is the only way they know how to get across the neutral zone now.

Sigh. Same scenario over and over and over and over and over again. And we'll only see more of this until the season is over.

Great analysis. Personally, I don't like to lose, but I've given up on this season for quite a while. You can add to those strategic issues the psychological ones. Losing from day one, the pressure, the mentality that we had a lot of injuries, Markov didn't come back, it was like a false start, almost. And then the "let's wait and not panic" set in...

As long as we get a top 5 pick it wouldn't be so bad I guess.. Although I don't really follow draft eligible players much but from what I've been reading around here the top 5 seem pretty good.

What's up with veteran player Stephen Wiese running his mouth in Budajs face after he scored.

I hope you realize that if the Habs finish 29th they have a better mathematical chance of winning the lottery and landing the 1st overall pick than any of the teams that finsh ahead of them in the standngs.

I said it earlier in the GDT, I believe he kept yapping off because when Budaj made a glove save on Weiss in the first period, Budaj gave Weiss a look and mouthed a few words at him. Obviously Weiss didn't like it and took exception to it.
