Unless they're getting rid of a bad contract in the process, makes no sense for them.
Because they lack size up front? They think he'd be a good piece to build around? They've always liked him? Take your pick.

They also seem to love American players for some reason.

I doubt we trade with Montreal, since besides PK, Max Pac and Price they really don't have much to offer. So we don't need Price and they will never trade Max, it leaves PK. I really doubt anything will happen involving Dubinsky, but their GM was following the Rangers quite often these past few weeks, so you never know...

Just my feel if a team is going to be sellers, the last thing I want is to take on a 4.2 mill cap hit player on pace for 35 points.

He would give us a hard right handed shot from the point on the PP. He's going to be a 50-60 point dman soon. I'd love to bring him in.

If Gainey was still there we'd be sitting here with Max P.

I don't think that has anything to do with it, however there is a HUGE surge of great American hockey players over the last 10 years.

GM's have a strange habit of looking beyond 70% of a season when evaluating a player.

I know they have been looking for a #1 C for quite some time (they actually thought Gomez would be the guy) and they have always liked Dubinsky...but besides Subban I don't see it happening.

Unless for whatever reason Montreal wants him out of the locker room. He's been known to cause some issues there and one of his good buds (Mike Cammilieri) isn't around anymore. They obviously have some issues with personnel up there not just PK. Still, he's on an entry level deal and has no arbitration rights yet. Something doesn't make sense.

It's really difficult for me to see where we are a match with Montreal in a deal involving Dubinsky. The Rangers only deal Dubinsky in a package for an upgrade. Who on Montreal is an upgrade? Subban, Packioretty, Desharnais, and Cole. Doesn't make much sense for the Rangers aren't trading Dubinsky for players past their prime. Especially not ones with 3 years left on their deal. That eliminates Cole.

Why does Montreal trade Subban, Pacioretty or Desharnais? In the midst of a rebuild, you don't trade your 25-yr old leading scorer, your 22-yr old 2nd leading scorer or your 22-yr old first pair defenseman. It simply doesn't make sense for either team.

There is a tendency for the established rumor guys to get close to the mark, but miss on the details. "Player X from Team A for Player Y from Team B." Meanwhile, players X and Y stay put, but teams A and B make a significant deal. Maybe that's what's going on here.

Well we've been looking for a shot from the point...PK certainly gives you that. Perhaps he's fought everyone on his team and it's time to move on? lol

I was thinking the same thing. A RHD we could use. Don't know who else besides Dubi we could send (prospects?) and Sather would have to either get another forward in the deal (unlikely unless we are sending a top prospect) or make another trade as losing Dubi would seriously hurt our depth and PK.

We definitely have enough to offer to get PK and/or Pacioretty, but I doubt Montreal gives up either of them. Since the team will be nearing a rebuilding stage, those are the guys you want to build around.

Unless they have a Rangers 1997-2004 rebuilding strategy...

For Subban you could send Dubinsky and a D. Which D would make it work though?

Perhaps. But is Dubinsky + Erixon too much for Subban? Maybe we need to get a pick back?

Subban is a tremendous talent but you want to talk about chemistry issues? You take a very popular Dubi out of that locker room and put in Subban, a guy many of the Rangers players have gotten mad at, and at times has attitude issues, and might clash with Torts? Don't know if that's such a good idea.

Also, I'm going to go by the Red Wings rules here as applied to Avery; if you're a young and talented player and a team doesn't want you, something isn't Kosher with that situation.

They also need to bring a forward back to replace Dubi. Kostitsyn? Moen? Then it would have to be a separate trade for Jarret Stoll, David Jones, Ryan Jones, or Chris Stewart.
