I really hope we're not going after Gagner.

I don't think that, but I think that Tambo would be stupid to trade Gagner unless it was a major overpayment.

Alzner alone would be an overpayment, Washington wouldn't have to add, but obviously they would be dumb to make that move anyway.

I don't think Gagner to Washington is a likely move.

Stop with this "we'll take" business. We get the idea. It's stupid.

Backstrom will be back come playoff time and Gagner is no upgrade on the Backstrom-Johansson 1-2 punch down the middle.

Dave Gagner and Dale Hunter good friends??

As opposed as I am to a Sam Gagner trade based on the asking price not lining up well with the Caps' disposable assets, your logic is flawed.

Backstrom hopes to be back for the playoffs. He could be back earlier, which means equal salary has to go out the door for Gagner, or he might not be back at all this season. Hell, we have to worry about making the playoffs first, too.

Both Johansson and Gagner can shift to the wing if necessary. Even with Backstrom back, there's still a vacancy on a scoring line unless Knuble turns it on or Laich is moved out of his shutdown role. There's potentially two vacancies if Brouwer sticks with Laich on the shutdown line. Gagner/Johansson are pretty decidedly an upgrade over Perreault, Chimera, or Hendricks in that final scoring role.
Keith Aucoin is playing in our top six right now. KEITH AUCOIN.

If we take Eberle there's a strong possibility that that changes the rest of the draft enough that we don't get Carlson. Hell Oilers probably take him then. Given what we have on our team it's close, but I'd rather have Carlson then Eberle.

Then again who knows, maybe we could have gotten both

Not sure wtf McPhee was smoking with being so high Gustafsson. I facepalmed so hard when that pick was announced.

they are a playoff team, they will take out the 2nd place team in the southeast division, wether it be Florida or Winnipeg. Ottawa will not be making the playoffs, Toronto and Tampa Bay can say good bye with no goaltending, Buffalo should be a concern for the Capitals though. It will be an entertaining finish none the less though.

any who, iunno if the caps have anything the oilers need and vice versa....i mean i'd like brooks laich instead of the idiot captain we have, but thats not gonna happen.

Ottawa is practically a lock unless a major meltdown happens. Now that they have Bishop that's unlikely.

Florida is more consistent, Winnipeg is more of a wildcard but they're doing well too. Not having Backstrom makes every game interesting. I think we'll make it but I'm not too optimistic and would prefer a limited sale (Vokoun, Wideman, Hamrlik, Knuble). Sort of like what Dallas was doing.

Ovechkin Johansson Brouwer
Chimera Perreault Semin
Hendricks Laich Ward
Beagle Halpern Knuble/Aucoin

That forward lineup doesn't guarantee anything. Semin quits chasing the dragon and they're good as dead.

Niiice...will there ever be playoffs for the oilers? We dont need Gagner at that price...we need winners and players who have played in meaningful games. Sorry that sounds mean...it comes across better when other fans are complaining about Semin proposals.

Would be wise for the Oilers to sell high on Gagner. He is still way too inconsistent for a player in his fifth year in the league. if a GM is stupid enough to look at his five game stretch and think hes turned it around for no apparent reason, good for them.

Just gonna play devil's advocate here...

10-11: 49th with 42 points in 68 games
09-10: 51st with 41 points in 68 games
08-09: 59th with 41 points in 76 games
07-08: 39th with 49 points in 79 games

Now, which season are you talking about with the injury? Because he played 68 games twice and 3 years his point totals have been within one point. So really, since the 08-09 season, he's been a fringe 2nd liner points wise. Basically, a below average 2nd liner or above average 3rd liner(assuming theres 30 #1 centers, 30 #2 centers, etc).

Now, this year, he's tied for 30th in scoring among centers, so that would put him into the category of an above average #2 center or below average #1 center(all based off of points only). But then again, 15 of those points came in 5 consecutive games. Take those 5 games away, and he's 71st among centers in scoring.

Or they could just keep him and let their 5 year veteran, 22 year old center continue to develop into a solid playmaker...

Tied with Duchene and Jeff Carter and they don't ask how its how many and your acting like a dominant run is a bad thing

LOL. That comment is just ridiculous. 5 games don't make a season. I could care less if he scores 100 points in 5 games, because that would still only contribute to 5 wins max.
