This is so true... anyone with a ring really gets an irrational degree of favoritism in the roster. If he had to choose between Pavelski and Walin for a Penilty shot, he'd probably choose Walin

Yeah, but he said a lot of stuff throughout the Vancouver series. They kept asking him if he was going to play, and he said, I'll play if the coaches tell me to play. But they also noted that he wasn't even skating at the time. I believe Pollak if he says Demers had a high ankle sprain that kept him out.

Let's see here:

Quote:
Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 28: The injury that kept Demers out of all five games against Vancouver in the Western Conference final playoff round was a high-ankle sprain, the Sharks' official site reports. San Jose did not go into detail about Demers' injury while the team was in the playoffs, and repeatedly listed him as having an undisclosed injury. Apparently, the defenseman has an idea of how to deal with the ailment. "It's the type of sprain that can keep you out for a week or keep you out for a month," said Demers. "So I'm going to talk to the trainers and see what I have to do. But right now it's just rest and get it better as quick as possible."

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 25: Despite declaring himself ready to play, Demers (undisclosed) missed Tuesday's Game 5 against the Canucks due to his lingering injury, The Canadian Press reports. Demers now has plenty of time to heal, as the Sharks were eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday. He finishes with two goals and an assist in 13 postseason performances.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 24: Demers (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday morning, and acknowledged that he is ready to play Game 5 later in the evening, NHL.com reports. Coach Todd McLellan will have the final say about the defenseman's playing status for Tuesday's critical do-or-die contest against the Canucks.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 23: Demers (undisclosed) took part in Monday's optional skate and believes he will be on the ice for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Canucks, the San Jose Mercury News reports. As encouraging as this sounds, there needs to be more than just Demers' own belief that he'll play before we consider this official. After all, Demers has yet to see action against Vancouver in the Western Conference finals, but the Sharks could use the young two-way defender as the team hopes to avoid elimination from the postseason Tuesday.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 20: Demers (upper body) is doubtful for Friday's Game 3 against the Canucks, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports. Demers hasn't practiced the last three days, and has yet to make an appearance in the Western Conference finals. Assuming he can't go, Kent Huskins will once again replace him in the lineup.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 18: Demers (undisclosed) is out for Wednesday's Game 2 conference final matchup against the Canucks, CSN's Brodie Brazil reports. With Demers still on the mend, look for Kent Huskins to fill in on the Sharks' blue line.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 18: Demers (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's Game 2 against Vancouver, sportsnet.ca reports. A recent report from the San Jose Mercury News indicated that Demers did not participate in the Wednesday morning skate. Obviously this does not bode well for his chances of suiting up later in the evening. Assuming he does not play, look for Kent Huskins to take his place on the blue line.

May 18: Demers (undisclosed) did not skate Wednesday morning, CSN's Brodie Brazil reports. The defenseman's official playing status remains unclear ahead of Wednesday night's contest against the Canucks, but his inability to take to the ice on game day is discouraging.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 18: Demers (undisclosed) did not skate Tuesday, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The Sharks have yet to announce whether or not Demers will be able to take to the ice for Game 2 on Wednesday.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 17: Demers (undisclosed) hopes to play against the Canucks on Wednesday, but coach Todd McLellan said the defenseman is day-to-day ahead of the Game 2 conference final matchup, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Demers, who missed Game 1, indicated that he is ready for Wednesday's contest despite dealing with "bumps and bruises." Of course, coach McLellan has the final say on the matter. We will circle back once we learn more about Demers' playing status for Team Teal's next game.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
May 16: Demers is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, the San Jose Mercury News reports. There were conflicting reports saying Demers was a healthy scratch from Game 1 on Sunday, but the Sharks organization claims Demers is indeed injured. "[Demers was] bumped and bruised, just like everyone else," coach Todd McLellan said. Demers was replaced by veteran defenseman Kent Huskins, who made his playoff debut Sunday. McLellan has not made a decision on who will start Game 2. "(Huskins) went in and I thought played a pretty honest game, and we'll see what we do for Game 2," McLellan said.

Anyway, whatever the coaching staff feels about Demers or not, what other rostered defensemen is expendable and valuable?

Only Braun....

No it's not, and Winchester wasn't even in the lineup in his roster. McGinn, Desjardins, and Burns have combined for 4 fights this year. You guys are getting on Clowe for not standing up for Couture and fighting, then come back and say the Sharks don't need anybody that can fight. Fantastic logic being used here. Neither of those 3 teams won the Cup last year. Boston won it with probably the toughest team in the league.

Is Vandermeer the worst defenseman in the league? If he's not, then our coaching staff needs to play him at defense, even if it's just to have him comfortable for playoffs. He needs reps too.

Also, if we can't dump White, why can't Vandy take White's spot and let White play on the 4th line or press box? Collin White is far less of a liability as a 4th line winger.

White is half blind and TMac plays him non-stop regardless. I hope the shot to his head got his brain straight and he'll sit both White and Niemi.

We should convert White to forward on the PP. We already know he can stand in front of the net and do nothing other than screen the goalie. Seems like it would be a perfect match for his skillset.

Plus, if he stood in front of the opposition's net instead, maybe all those stupid-ass bounces would help us for once.

Oh I'm sure somehow White would cause even more trouble as a forward. He'd probably take goalie interference penalties everytime he went to screen the goalie. Or he'd make beautiful gretzky like passes...to the other team as they go up on the rush on odd man situations.

Maybe White has a clause in his contract that we don't know about that says he has to play so-and-so amount of games or he can't be scratched unless he's injured? Maybe that's why he's being played so much even though everyone knows he's been bad.

Hedican said Wallin was even better last year.

I only watched a bit of the pre-game, but he said something along the lines of: Wallin last year was at least a pretty stable #5/#6 guy. White has not proven that he is one.

Can we make Hedican our defensive coach? What the hell does Woodcroft know anyway... he's a video guy.

At this point Hedican and DW can probably be our bottom pairing.
