No, I don't think anyone wants Madden either. He'd just be a throw-in in a larger deal I'm guessing. I'm just using process of elimination. Santorelli is another likely candidate. Nobody's going to take on Upshall's contract. Bradley is possible but not likely. Sturm is solid and I think we'd prefer to keep him. I don't see Skille being traded. Goc might be traded to land a better center.

Smithson has won 55.6% of his faceoffs this year.

For what he has been asked to do I thought Madden has been solid. Guy isn't expected to be a point producer just a penalty killer and defensive forward.

Faceoff %

Smithson: 55.6
Weiss: 54.7
Goc: 51.6
Madden: 51.6

Santorelli: 44.9

Solid upgrade especially since Tallon's been preaching puck possession since forever. Also a center with size.

Preds fans are NOT happy, and I'm one of em... I can't believe we gave him up for a sixth round pick.
Panthers got a hell of a bargin...
Smithers was a fan favorite. Yes, he doesn't have mountains of flair - but this guy just reeks of professionalism. He was a stabilizing piece of this team with a nasty stare (you'll see it), he won so many key faceoffs for us it's stupid! Just a solid, steady hockey player - he hates to lose, hard nosed and his locker room speeches were legendary. He HATES to lose... Im close to some of those on the team and many will tell you he was the glue in the room. Just a leader... Also scored the biggest goal in Preds history last year. Overtime winner in game 5 against the ducks...
I gotta think Poile is clearing the deck for 2 key forwards. Later Smithers, Florida is getting a true warrior who has no problem living under the radar. Im pissed!

Playoffs, here we come. There better be something else in the works b/c we are struggling down the home stretch here. Light a spark, Tallon!

The guy who might be traded who has VALUE is Matthias. Young, inexpensive and playing well though I think he'll never be more than a good third liner.

Santos with the Nashville connections, now get us Suter/Weber

Not sure how to feel about this trade, we need offense!!! And it seems to me that we have too many forwards as well.

He lags behind the play too much. From what Nashville fans say Smithson is a good forechecker, I like that, and he's better than madden at faceoffs. We need help in all areas, any upgrade we can get is a plus.

Thanks for the writeup. I can really see why santos likes this guy.

Michael Santos must have some very explicit pictures of your current GM for blackmail purposes.

I think it's a mistake to trade Matthias unless Stastny's coming back from colorado. I think Matthias is one of those late bloomer powerforward types. Even if the stats don't show it as much, his game has taken a step up to the next level. As he gets stronger and better, I think he could turn into a 25 goal 50-60 point 2nd line center who can play PK. Bjugstad reminds me a lot of Matthias as far as his length and style, so down the road, Shawn may be expendable, but I think he could really blossom next season. He's progressed well.

I hate to say this, and I hope I'm wrong. I really do... but...
We have a lot of depth at center. Need scoring on the outside.
I think there's a real chance that Weiss is being shopped. I think there was serious interest in him in the offseason, and I think there's serious interest in him now. I can name 8 clubs off the top of my head that could use a top 6 and bottom 6 center and would give up a pile for Weiss and Santorelli right now.
I really do hope I'm wrong... but I'm not sure I am.

If he's moved, and I don't think I'd be completely surprised at this point, we'd have to have a true #1 coming back. We could get some stud winger, but we don't have a center to actually step in and fill the spot.

Trades like Smithson and Madden just solidify our center depth and push guys like Santo and Matty out to the wings where they will be more effective. Just my opinion of course.

The more I read about this trade, the more I like it. Even though he's on-pace for 6 points this season, with him now having the best faceoff percentage on the team, being a leader in the locker room, and having playoff experience, this minor move could turn out huge down the line. For $800,000, you can't not like this one.

He's alright, but he's also responsible for one of the best moments in our team's history. Good luck in Florida dude........... this is what many Preds fans will remember him by.

It looks to me like Dale is going after a big fish because he acquired another bottom 6 forward. We dont need one at all, only if we are trading guys like Santo..

The Wolski move has gotten more attention, but this has been a nice addition after 2 games for us.

Smithson so far is a +2, winning about 57% of faceoffs, and played a part in Wolski's game-tying goal going to the front of the net. Also, he's had a couple of great passes off the boards that have created scoring chances for us. Hasn't really looked like a John Madden-esque offensive liabilty to me.

^Agreed. So far, it seems like Smithson could be a permanent fixture on our 4th line. Solid player, it's nice to have at least one of the Center spots squared away. Weiss is looking nice at 2nd though. (2 centers figured out?)
