If a Nash deal falls through, only two guys on the market that I really care about are Ott & Gustad. We're not going to be able to address our biggest need which is offense, so these are the only two guys that really come to mind. Preferably Ott, but who knows if the Stars are willing to move him, and at what cost..
He's gotten better every year from his first year in the AHL to now. His Point production has always improved and he's a great 2-way forward with flashes of some impressive play-making ability. He's young, on a good contract and has great potential. At 21 He was top 5 in the AHL in scoring (I believe.. not 100% sure on that). Trading him now would be a huge mistake.
The great thing about Torts' style is that there are undervalued players around the league who could step in and really thrive under Torts in a bottom 6 or 3rd pairing role. These are the players our brass has to identify.
We have to trade for a forward, right? We only have 12 and that includes a bunch of guys who are broken down and John Mitchell who I am skeptical about. Who would our reinforcements be? MZA, Newbury???
Now that we are a contender and have some top flight prospects GMs around the league are trying to stick it to us. I think the day will come and go and we will do nothing because every proposed deal will require us to get fleeced.
