Schultz is an elite Defensive Dman imo. It was a good trade for you guys! stay at home defensemen never get enough credit, but he will be more vital to your team as he can be put on the ice against any line.
This is for the 9th best GA team in the NHL and 9th best GA/G team in the NHL.
i liked gilbert a little more this season, but when the playoffs come, i want a guy that has a more physical game. nice to see gilbert is heading home.
Schultz is a defensive d-man with great mobility, and can eat up tons of minutes mistake free. As an outsider, I thought the Oilers would need a player like him.
Don't know how well Gilbert has been playing this year though...
I really think some of you need to see Schultz play a few games. He's a great defensive player and he'll look great as a #4 guy here. I like Gilbert but we need an offensive defenceman WITH him here so it's not like things have changed.
Realistically, Edmonton really needs a top pairing minute eater who can play in all situations. Moving Gilbert to acquire Schultz doesn't really change that and I think it actually balances out our defence better IF we can get that guy (possibly Ryan Murray long-term?).
I have many mixed feelings about this trade. I feel Minny shouldve added but then again, I dont really watch Wild games so I dont know much about Schultz.
Im just upset that as soon as Glibert seemed to be coming around, we got rid of him.
Maybe Gilbert wanted to go home, he from Minnesota right? And Schultz's home isn't that far from EDM (thanks wiki).
Anyway, I don't see the reason for upset about this deal. Maybe Gilbert has a few upsides offensively that Schultz has not but overall it looks like a fair deal to me. - 500k in cap
Now they go for Rundblad and pair him with Schultz
My personal take is that Shultz is really underrated. Just like Smid is underrated. They both can skate really well and make plays out of their own ends. The Oilers don't need guys that don't play hard in their own end and it was just a year ago we were all complaining about Gilbert's lack of physicality. Schultz is a durable hard to play against D man that eats up minutes. I think in the long term people will like this deal.
