Smid and Schultz give us two good, mobile shutdown guys now as well. Add in a Suter/Wideman etc. and we have a pretty balanced defensive core now. If Petry can keep progressing, we could end up pretty solid on the back-end.
Don't really like the deal, but it isn't the worst transaction Tambo has orchestrated. Better deal for the Wild than the Oilers, IMO, despite the way the crew on TSN raved about it.
Gotta be something like that. I thought Gilbert was beasting against Philly and made the best play of the night against Phoenix setting up Hemsky with the fantastic pass.
Sure can't be the way he was playing.
What? Gilbert has been playing like shyte since he got back from injury. Not saying that being out so long had something to do with it, but he was no where near he pre-injury form. Saying that, for all of those saying Tambo doesn't have the balls to make hockey deals, your wish has come true.
Bit of a shock but i think we are okay with this trade.
Petry's performance last month made Gilbert available.
Schultz was a Lemaire's favorite, so that says something about Schultz defensive ability and smartness.
Signing Hemsky, making trade like this to adjust dynamics of the lineup and positioning to get that true offensive d man later on, I think we are definitely in a new phase with our rebuild. Liking it.

Strange that so many are against this deal. How many games have Oilers fans complained about Tom Gilbert? A ton!
Schultz is a solid stay-at-home D who the Oilers need moving forward. Just take a look at all the tweets about how the Wild players are upset by the departure of Schultz. That says a lot.
