Impossible to judge this until I see Schultz play.

Gilbert wasn't the best offensively but this team desperately needs another PMD for next season.

I think Gilbert has served the Oilers well. Not too sure about Shultz though. If he is a stay at home d man then maybe he will be around to take a man in front and clear out some garbage. I bet he is a bit more careful with the puck. What I didn't like about Gilbert is that 90 % of the time he is really good but when pressured he will give it up.

Most people here will complain regardless of what Tambo does.

Russo - #mnwild players are beyond shocked. Faces were completely stunned when I told players: Clutterbuck: "He's what this org. is all about."

They're devastated too; real interested to watch him play now.

Wtf?

Tambo got taken behind the garden shed. I mean, I like Schultz, he like Staois circa 2003, but not at that price.

We trade our #1 minute muncher for Minnesota's #5.

There has to be something else gong on.

Sounds like Nick Schultz is quite the leader in the dressing room.

Not that I'm questioning Gibby's leadership abilities - he's a good guy but maybe we needed a different kind of voice in the locker room.

What's wrong with you guys? Any trade that we make on D is a good trade outside of Smid and Petry. Our defence is trash and change in personnel is welcome.

Gilbert made some strides defensively this season but he was still painfully average on the defensive side of the puck and with that his offensive game disappeared.

Jacques Lemaire loved Nick Schultz and leaned heavily on him when he was coaching the Wild.

Disregard Gagner for Green because I thought he had a lower cap hit.

Schultz is a better dman than most of you think BUT I still think the Oilers should have got more for Gilbert

The one thing that gives me hope is he was heavily relied upon in Yeo's team which is the 9th best defensive team in the NHL.

I know they are universes better than us in the goaltending department, but if he can play tough minutes, then he was the shutdown guy we wanted from free agency.

We'll see how this goes, but this opens up a spot at the RH side of the D. If we can fill it with an upgrade on Gilbert, then I'm ok.

But if our play is to play Potter or Whitney on his off side, this makes very little sense.

We'll see. Still shocked we moved Gilbert. He found a new level of steady JUST this season. After all this development, we trade him?

Great trade Gilbert turns the puck over way to much

I view Gilbert as a top 4 guy and Schultz as a #5 guy at best. Now we have Schultz, Sutton, Potter, Peckham & Barker who are all best at playing on the bottom pairing.

let's hope that Gilbert's losing streak in Edm-Minn games continues

I just wonder why we couldnt package someone else to get Schultz and keep Gilbert as well.

I'm actually going to hold my judgement on this until I see Schultz play a dozen games or so.

We DO need this type of player but we still need more.

EDIT - its a great sign for us that the Wild locker room was "devastated" to lose Schultz.

This guy will be good for us.

I'm ok with this right now because I think it addresses a need we've had for awhile. I hope he doesn't contract the Oileritis though.

Do you believe that overall Gilbert is a better defenseman than Whitney?

Absolutely kills me on this board. Everyone says how putrid our defence is, and how gutless Tambo is, and then we trade for a true blue shutdown dman that we deperately needed and everyone freaks. Take a deep breath people, and give it some time. We still have all our kids, last I looked.

Rofl. This is like the reaction after the Visnovsky trade.

You guys aren't even gonna watch him play one game before condemning Tambellini?

Schultz has never been a 5 guy.

Step 1: Wait 6 years for a defender to reach a certain level.

Step 2: See him reach that level.

Step 3: Trade him to a division rival.

On a bright note, Gilbert at least is going back home.

His lack of PP time kills his TOI/G, which isn't the best way to judge roles D-man have on teams.
