It'd be funny if Zanon remained while Schultz moved.
Oilers never tweeted it first Mike smith at Sportsnet did

Even though Schultzie has a little bit of an off season, im going to miss him. He's been one of my favorite players. I'm glad i resisted the urge to get his name on the back of my jersey, i had a feeling he would be leaving us soon.....

This are the type of moves that make me wish he was like Riser. No move is better than a bad move, and that's what's happened before on the deadline area.

Can someone explain how bringing gilbert in could make Suter want to come and play for us?

They played together at UW and are good friends, according to Pierre McGuire.

Just a question for you guys, not too familar with Schultz, what kind of player are the Oilers getting in him? I'm hearing solid defensively, good character guy, that about right?

HALF.
Good to know that Fletcher realizes he can't win with this group. Too bad he's going to have a hard time finding legitimate top-4 guys. Hopefully Scandella and Brodin make significant strides this off-season.....

Yup. We would have liked him to be a bit more physical, but otherwise exactly right.

Well according to some in the trade forum thread, Gilbert is a very legitimate top 4 kinda guy. We will see tho.

I can why players want a no trade clause in their contracts, to avoid a moment like. Sucks to have move after living here for so long. But I guess that's part of the business.
Good luck in Edmonton Schultz.

I think this is pretty mutually beneficial for both teams. We get a steady defensive D and you add a more offensive minded D.

13 goals in 2007-2008 is nothing to shake a stick at.

Should be an interesting season series next year assuming we're both still in the same division.

i see this as more of a lateral move as some have said. no clear winner in the trade, but good for both teams.

my opinion, this is more of a safe move by CF for a puck mover, incase we dont land one in FA.

I'd say he's a 4-5 guy. But on his best days, that was Schultz too. So hopefully they think they're getting a guy who can provide more in transition and add something in offensive zone. It's a bit of a lateral, change of scenery-type of deal but at the very least Gilbert isn't redundant with the rest of the Wild defensemen. He'll help the team get up and down a tad more which is what the Yeo wants.

Gilbert is prone to some gaffs, though, so we'll see what happens.

Haven't been a big fan from what I've seen. Skoula-like giveaways and deteriorating production. Being a top-4 guy on Edmonton's like being a top-4 guy here, we both have terrible groups(IMO the 2 worst in the league).

I don't know how it can be as worse as the leddy-barker debacle. Schultz is like 30 years old.......

I understand the trade. We don't have guys that can move the puck. We have one prospect named Brodin who possesses the potential to do so. He might not be ready next year. While I won't contend that Falk or Stoner can fill Schultz's role, their skills are far closer to filling that role than they are a PMD.

It has also been implied in this thread that the lockerroom needs to be woken up. I think that GMCF may feel that he needs to remove anyone that represents Lemaire/Risebrough era in order to try to get a new identity/culture.

As for Schultz, and I apologize for being redundant since I posted this in another thread, I will miss him. He was the first Wild prospect that got me interested in following the Wild's prospects. I always thought he had more potential to provide more offense but after several years of playing in Lemaire's system, he became a mobile, defensive defenseman. His best season was with Mitchell, imo. In short, I thank him for his time here and wish him the best.

PS. If anyone has the old Wild DVD from their first three seasons, it has a scene with Schultz and they talk about him being a 19 year old rookie with potential. Funny how time flies...
