I'd love Kassian on our team. Whole lotta upside there.

I really doubt Bickel and Scott both dress in the same game unless there are injuries.

In fact I would guess that Scott's acquisition means Bickel is headed back to Connecticut or the Rangers made another deal involving a defenseman that hasn't been reported yet. I mean they still have Woywitka and Eminger, too.

The only thing hilarious here is you thinking John Scott is actually going to do anything.

Come on.
Same thing was said about Shelley. A useless player that was just gonna fight and do nothing.

I don't think Scott will do much but we gave up a 5th rounder, not a 1st or a 2nd. Let's see how he plays before we absolutely kill him.

And people still can't understand that EVERY OTHER TEAM ADRESSED THEIR NEEDS for the playoffs. We did NOTHING. We'll have the exact same team as before while other contenders are upgraded and better.

JM - he also plays wing.

Not thrilled with this move. Thought they could have addressed this type of move with players that could do more than fight.

I will agree with a few of the posters, there wasn't a lot out there to choose from.

If you say everyone will, make the appropriate thread yourself when the time comes.
Just a question- why should we eat crow when we want to win for guys like Lundqvist, and Callahan, and even Gaborik who earn their paychecks and make this team the contender it is?

Just because you think Dubinsky is invaluable doesn't make you a better fan. Get over yourself, jesus christ.

Jim- not true. Flyers goalies still suck. Their defense still sucks. I don't think Boston had to do much, and bringing in a guy who just cleared waivers a few days ago isn't going to help either.

That said though, why in Messier's name did we get John Scott???

We could have gone from having a 12.5% chance in the playoffs to a 15% chance.

Why didn't we mortgage the future for that?

Dreger was talking about another EC GM looking to pry away Hodgson; would anybody be shocked if that was Slats? Hodgson would have been a perfect fit, but obviously we didn't have the type of player available that Vancouver was looking for.

Shelley being one of our best players down the stretch (imo it was all Arty) goes to show how subpar that team was. I'm NOT killing the guy, I just don't want him wasting a d-man spot while he sits in the box and makes our slumping, exhausted core play even more minutes.

Difference when we traded for Shelley was that he actually filled the need of a fighter/goon since the Brashear experiment failed.

I don't see what need Scott addresses, he's like 8th on our depth chart. Heck, I think we actually gave up less for Shelley then we did for Scott.

what team in the East really improved today? Flyers got Kubina and Grossman recently but they are not difference makers............Pens get nothing..........Bruins added depth sure but did you want Rolston?

We got a 3rd for Wolski, who nobody including myself thought was worth anything, and dealt a 5th for our obligatory toughness addition.

So thats a net plus in terms of draft position for the Rangers.

Eklund has under confirmed trades - Rangers acquire John Scott for a 5th

bizarre move. John Scott is a huge Lefty D from Chicago.

edit: old news i guess? how come there isn't a thread about it then?

our depth issue CAN be resolved within the organization:

Kreider joining the team at LW

Sauer being G2G before April

Erixon being healthy and 100% ready to play some games for us

Burning a year of Kreider's ELC is not nearly as challenging salary wise as Nash would've been. If Sather feels we can win, I'm sure we'll see this.

Sauer and Erixon provide us a 6th and 7th, pushing Bickel and Eminger into the 8th and 9th.

I'm ok with this if this is how Slats is projecting the roster come playoff time.

If he projects the roster as-is, then we know he wasn't serious about this team going for a Cup, and is hoping to get some deep playoff experience and see what can be added July 1st, + Kreider + Erixon + (maybe) McIlrath etc, for next season

Jim Morrison: who exactly in the east is upgraded? Do we really consider Mike Motteau + Brian Rolston's corpse and upgrade for Boston? What did Philly and Pittsburgh add? Are you quaking in terror at the Devils addition of an offensive defenseman who played himself off of a team fighting for the playoffs? Florida added Wolski: why the hell couldn't we find a guy like him?!?!?!

actually moving wolski looks like a bad move now. our biggest weakness is zero offensive depth. that guy at least could step in if there's a serious injury to a top 6er

now we've got mza who imo is not even an nhler and thats it no depth.

not a good idea moving wolski

Our cup window is open as long as Hank is playing at the level he has for the past few years. Not because of 6 goals worth of chemistry. I really hope you understand that.
