I don't understand how we sit and do nothing? Did we really focus so much on Rick Nash that we just missed out on everything else? This is so ****ing bizarre. John Scott? Everything about this is just so strange

John Scott has also played the wing. He is basically Stu Bickel but bigger and a better fighter.

What is this nonsense about every other team addressing their needs? Boston needed more scoring and certainly didn't get it by acquiring Rolston. Philly didn't address their goaltending. Oh wait, Ottawa acquired Gilroy. Award them the cup!

My guess is John Scott is an insurance policy if one of Rupp, Bickel get hurt. Glad to see someone will be taking a few punches meant for Prust, who we saw get a bit worn down toward the end last year. Not sure the guy cracks top 6 on D. Could be valuable to spell guys like Stralman who seems to be slowing, Bickel probably mot used to the long season may slow down. If Scott can take a few punches from Prust, and spell some of our better depth d-men so theyre just a little bit more fresh than they would have been, he serves a purpose.

Team struggles to score in the games through the Frozen Four I wouldnt be shocked to see Sather burn a year on Kreiders ELC. According to TSN Sather worked hard all day to land Nash. Dreger says Sather put a "mammoth" offer on the table. Seems desparate for scoring. Bringing up Kreider if they fail to score would be a desparation move, and I think Sather may be open to it after his failure to gain a scorer today.

Gaustad for a 1st and 4th? What a rip off. Only way that trade is worth it is if Suter says "wow this organization is committed to winning. In turn I'll commit to them."

Who cares about fighters? Fighters are gone in todays NHL, especially in the playoffs. Fighters are NOTHING. Which coach tells his guy to go fight someone and risk getting the extra two minutes? In the playoffs?

Define the part in bold. Who did you want them to get?

I'd love to see the reaction of this board if the Rangers paid the price Nashville did for Gaustad. Would have been ten times worse.

I'm pissed off we gave up a 5th rounder for that useless goon John Scott. A 5th rounder could be another Hagelin or Lundqvist and we gave it away for nothing.

We're going to war with what we have. Players step up differently in the playoffs. This year will show who is made out of what.

We are a first place team, but we are not perfect. No team is perfect. Even the ones that win the Stanley Cup.

Grit is important down the stretch and deep into the playoffs, Scott is cheap insurance if a D man goes down and we need size/experience. Its not just about him.

Dubi saying he's going to go in with a chip on his shoulder, he knows what he has to do. This could have been a good scare to get him going. He has a 22 game season + playoffs to show us if he means business.

We have the BEST GOALIE IN THE WORLD. Don't under estimate how important this is.

We got to this point, and we will continue from here on it.

This is what we're going to war with. Join along if you believe...

You forgot to add: "slower and more of a liability defensively."

I would not mind getting one of Gaustad, Zanon, McGinn, Mottau, Kostitsyn or Quincey for example.

Yep. He's what Bickel would be if he was a 36 year old man.

Didn't you hear? In the fictional universe where every other team was completely healthy all year and Gaborik, and Callahan suffered major injuries we're just fighting for a playoff spot!

Yes, Sather didn't make any other phone calls. It was Nash or bust. Come on, what you proposed happened is just ridiculous. For the most part only spare parts were available. And while we could have used a Gaustad, was he worth a 1st? I applaud him for showing restraint.

Wasnt the Rangers trying to acquire Hodgson, the EC team in question didn't have the assets to get it done, The Rangers have assets.

Pretty sure MZA gets called up now for the added skillset/PP. He should be extremely motivated now. We have a roster with 12 Fwd & 9 D (plus Sauer on LTIR) now.

Regarding Scott - we will play some pretty tough games coming up (21 games in 41 days - gruesome schedule). We play 5 rough n tumble teams (as in Devils 3 times, Pittsburgh 2 times, Boston 2 times, Philly & NYI once each) in 9 games during this stretch. They will be playing rough, probably even borderline & beyond, against us considering our position in the standings. For us to have a gargantuan giant as in Scott (along with Bickel & Rupp) to take the battles in these presumable brutal contests and allow Prust, Duby, Boyle & Cally to play some hockey (and hopefully produce a bit more) is probably not entirely stupid. But expect to see some brawls... I kinda like it

We've been doing it all year with smoke and mirrors. We'll get exposed in the playoffs.
If you can't appreciate what our bottom six do, especially that third line recently, you don't understand hockey all too well. I hope you're just being hyperbolic.

Then you just want to make a trade for trading sake? Mike Mottau?

You really wanted to give up a first for a 20-30 point player with 0 career playoff goals in 38 games?

Need more than just Henke blueshirt. This team looks good and Sather positioned them perfectly to compete for the next three or four years at least. Go into the playoffs with a first place team and see what happens. Don't jump at the chance to acquire an overpaid asset like Nash who ties your hands for the rest of eternity. This is not the end of NYR's young, talented and hard working core unit, only the beginning. NYR has tons of cap room at the end of the season to add a guy who fits into the plan much better than Nash like Zach Parise or any number of options that were not available at the trade deadline.

Nobody talks about the fact that Nash is not an ideal asset for NYR, he is a puck carrier who wants the puck from one end to the other, just like Gabby, just like Richards, just like Dubi. I am not enthralled with any of the guys that were available at the deadline and don't think any of NYR's competitors made any significant moves to get better.
