Cam Neely deal 2.0. Except the "soft" guy will be a steady 60-70 scorer and the "tough" guy might be lucky to make the NHL.

How the **** does GMMG makes a deal like that? We're trying to win a ****ing Cup and he deals a youngster who scores big goals and makes mad plays for a PROSPECT not named Brayden Schenn or Sean Couturier? Are you ******** me?

I would still be a bit pissed if the deal was made at the draft, but this is the trade deadline. Our window as top contenders will only last for sure until 2013. We don't trade ELC's far outplaying their deals for futures. That's just stupid.

Gillis panicked and he will pay dearly for the move.

I can be convinced on this deal - but I don't get why it happened right now. Would have made more sense at the draft. Don't really see Kassian contributing right now considering he has been in the AHL most of the year.

I mean yeah we traded away Hodgson and I am just as upset about this as anyone else. But ask yourself this question what were Hodgsons future plans with the 'nucks? I mean it's not like he was gonna play top 6 minutes with Kesler and Sedin here for a long time. Kassian not only has the potential to be a top 6 winger he adds an element of grit to Vancouver's top 6 which we lack. Gragani on the other hand has great potential. I think the Canucks win this deal in the long run honest to god.

guys we just got ourselves a badass. would cody hodson ever get in a bar fight? he wouldnt even get into a hockey fight.

Quote:
WINDSOR, Ont. -- Windsor Spitfire Zack Kassian no longer has to worry about a criminal record thwarting his hockey career — assault charges against him were dropped in court Wednesday.

The charge, related to bar fight in downtown Windsor, was withdrawn by the Crown through a negotiated deal, referred to in the courts as “diversion.”

As part of the deal, Kassian had to perform 25 hours of community service, make a $500 donation to charity and pay for the dental work of the man he punched, said his lawyer, Patrick Ducharme.

Windsor police arrested the Spitfire forward just before 2 a.m. on May 30 at The Beach Sports Bar and Grill on Ouellette Avenue. Kassian, 19, didn’t have to spend any time in jail, being released the same day on a promise to appear in court.

Ducharme said a criminal record would have had “serious” implications on Kassian’s career. He was the Buffalo Sabres’ first-round draft pick and a criminal record would have made it difficult for the LaSalle native to cross the border.

“There’s no question that the Buffalo team wanted him record-free,” said Ducharme, in a telephone interview from an out-of-town trial.

A record would also hamper his OHL career — Windsor routinely plays road games in three U.S. cities.

Kassian did not appear in court Wednesday when his charges were withdrawn. The case, handled before a justice of the peace, was dealt with in about one minute.

I'm stunned.

I remember like it was yesterday... Calling Hodgson a bust and making fun of his grampa's back injury. Then he played his way into my good graces, stunning the hockey world with his ice vision and rocket of a shot.

He is going to make a great captain for Buffalo.

Kassian better turn into Rick Nash lite or Bertuzzi-Prime.

Kassian reminds me of Steve Bernier

I think I may be more devastated than after Game Seven

This. I guess we don't want any offense from our third line?

We still have our third line that was great in the playoffs last year.

So, is Kassian going straight onto the roster?

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Higgins
Hansen Pahlsson Kassian
Lappiere Malhotra Bitz/Weiss

Hammhuis Bieksa
Edler Salo
Tanev Rome/Gragnani

??

Kassian will be a bigger contributer in the playoffs than Hodgson would've been. He should be a perfect fit on the 2nd line.

It's definitely a risky deal but it has the potential to pay off HUGE for Canucks. A lot of hockey people think Kassian is the real deal. This isn't some AHL scrub we are talking about.

Hodgson didn't fit well on this team behind two elite centres. He's an awesome player but he seemed like an odd man out. He was being wasted on the 3rd line.

Kassian can fill a massive need for the team if he develops like many expect him too. Seriously - this guy is a mean, nasty, power forward who has the potential to put up points.

To get a guy like Kassian you have to give up something, bottom line.

If Kassian falters like many projected power forwards do then this will go down as one of the worst trades in franchise history. However, if Kassian continues to develop and becomes the player he's projected to be this will be a HUGE win for the Canucks.

this makes no sense. Kassian doesn't have the ceiling Hodgson have and nor is he as NHL ready. Judging from the WJC performance, Hodgson is the much better player.... At least get someone better than Marc-Andre Gragnani as a package. We could of gotten Guastad instead. We now lose a PP specialist who is capabable of point per game next season. STUPID FUKING MOVE GILLIS.

Trades are always a bit of a gamble. I can see people are upset now that CoHo looks like the player I/we hoped he could be. But as others have pointed out, he had no room here.

This is a great hockey deal. Call me a believer. I want a Kassian jersey already Kassian and Kesler is going to be fireworks!

I think it hard for us to be objective about this considering hodgson's story so far with the Canucks.

Kassian is just as highly regarding considered but very different player. We have a few players with similar earn skills to Hodgson, but we had no one with the power forward toughness that Kassian has.

Gragnani was very good in the playoffs last year. Buffalo has had too many injuries to their bigger dmen this and it has reduced Gragnanis role a bit. Let's see if he can make it here. Better than Sulzer for sure.

I hate losing Hodgson but this deal makes sense.

Please take good care of our Cody

I'll admit I'm fine with the trade in principle, but the timing couldn't have been worse. He's not ready to contribute in the NHL level, unlike Cody who's been one of the top rookies of the season whose production isn't any sort of fluke.

And if Kassian turns out to be Steve Bernier 2.0 Gillis is soooo done

Getting over the shock of moving Cody. Putting that aside...interested to see what Kassian and Gragnani bring to the table. This is obviously a playoff-posturing move by Gillis to let teams know we'll be tougher to play against this year. Gragnani hopefully can bring some stability to the back end at ES and on the PP (had a great playoff last year), as well as provide some succession planning for Salo's eventual retirement.

Lineup now?

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Kassian - Kesler - Booth
Higgins - Lapierre - Hansen
Raymond - Pahlsson - Malhotra

?

Came back just to say that this is a horrible trade. The problem we have is that our players are so redundant already. Sure, Kassian MIGHT be good. But we traded a guy who has proven that he can be an offensive force even in limited minutes for one who should be good but who knows? If he's going to play the same game as Kesler and Booth it doesn't address our needs for another playmaker on the team. Gragnani by all accounts is like Ballard, who isn't exactly a coach's favourite.

Bottom line, I feel as if we traded Hodgson away primarily because he was being underutilized in the first place. Really crushed right now.

LOL funny I did this lineup too and completely forgot Raymond - as you did.

I think Lappy makes it to the 3rd line.
