I was kinda hoping Campoli and Darche would go for late picks, but I guess the market wasn't there. Very odd actually, even other teams couldn't seem to get trades worked out for guys they were trying to get to rid of, Allen and Spacek both should have been traded.
I will say this though, Moen better be re-signed, I know he is hurt, and that might affect his trade value, but still, something is better than nothing.
Three UFAs that are going to leave this offseason and for which we'll get nothing in return.
Campoli cost us nothing and is worthless, Darche's best chance to remain in the NHL is in Montreal. Losing Moen for nothing will hurt but we don't know how injured he is, and we should at least try to resign him.
My prediction: A lot more moves coming for the Habs this summer. If they draft a big center who is close to being NHL ready, I am sure they will listen to offers for Pleks. Campoli likely we be re-signed, Kaberle will be in Europe and Gomez will be bought under special provisions in the new CBA. Gionta will be gone too if they can find a taker for him... which I doubt. (... remember, just predictions).
By everything just and holy in this world and beyond would you summize that Campoli would be re-signed and Gionta would be gone " if we can find a taker for him"
I can't believe we didn't trade Darche for future considerations and Plekanec + a 2nd for the privileged of giving Radulov $7M a year in hopes that's enough to make him sign for a NHL team where he'd be centred by Eller or Gomez.
So I did my exam and a bit after 2pm I checked my phone for some tweets to see who got dealt. No mention of Campoli. At around 2:50pm I was almost home (taking the long ass route by bus so I can keep getting tweets) I still get nothing on Campoli. I figured he probably returned something so crap that it wasn't worth a tweet, I was still confident in him being gone. Then I get a tweet at like 3pm that Campoli is staying put...I almost threw my phone out the bus window.
Like I said at the beginning of the day, this was one year where I prefered not doing anything than doing a bunch of stupid things just to make moves. Would have traded Campoli for a late pick though.
When the fact that management didn't decide to trade your first line center for scraps is cause for celebration...
Gauthier will probably be out after the season, I imagine they didn't want to replace him in the middle of the season when they are fewer options. I hope they go for a small smart moves kind of guy over a big stupid moves one, we can't afford to screw that up.
So Gill got us the best return of our trades this year. I believe Moen would of gotten us a pretty good return as well if he had not been injured and available. PG did say he wasn't going to trade him but he might still walk in the summer.
