What's up with Rupp?

Does he have some nagging injury? I know he hurt his hand awhile back, anyone know if that's still be an issue? He seems awfully ghost-like lately. He doesn't seem to be throwing the body noticeably, nor fighting. I was hoping that his addition would take some of the load off Prust, but Pruster still seems to be the guy dropping the mitts every game.

The mistake was believing that the presence of Rupp would mean that Prust would stop fighting. Prust fights because he likes to, imo.

Rupp is more than a fighter, and is on pace for right around his usual number of fights. He has 9 this season, 12 the past two season, and a career high of 16 in 2008-2009.

I will add that his hitting is down this year, which is definitely concerning.

He's thrown 61 hits through 38 games, while he threw 181 and 198 hits in each 81 game season he played in Pittsburgh.

Fedotenko

id take a slow regular season if it means playoff goals to help win the big prize

I remember in 24/7 Rupp said that hes not the guy to wait till hes 100% to come back. Hes the guy that comes back when he is good enough not be a liability.

Maybe the injuries he's coming off from are coming back slightly to effect his game?

yea i think so.. he at least tries hard. maybe he needs a game or 2 off..he is always key in the playoffs...ask devils fans that..same with Fedotenko...Rupp hasnt been bad just average, but at least he tries and isnt a lazy or problem on the ice.

I'm more concerned about the YouTube user who titled the video "Round 4......."

I hope he has one more playoff stretch left in him...and if he looks out of place he will have to be replaced by a faster and younger Bickel . You have to go with who is performing in the playoffs !

He won the WC for us. His 1.5 mil payday this season is justified.

If he doesn't show up in the playoffs though, I wouldn't mind putting him in the AHL for 2 years, 1.5.

The hits category isn't a perfect science

Agreed, but when the magnitude of difference is 1/3rd less hits over the court of a season, it shouldn't be tossed aside, either.

One-third less icetime (6:39 on the Rangers vs 10:02 last year in Pittsburgh) would be a pretty good explanation for one-third fewer hits, and that's not taking into account injuries.

I think Rupp will be fine. At least he's not a liability on the ice. I think his hands are bothering him from that nasty slash he took a while back. I bet you he is playing with a broken finger.

Not sure if you have seen the last couple of games but he has been awful. He has been slow and totally unwilling to get physically involved. Hope he comes around!

I believe Pruster would be an MMA fighter if it weren't for hockey. So, I've no doubt that he likes it, but I'd prefer to have a healthy Prust come playoffs. Today's acquisition tells you Torts and Co. feel the same. John Scott will be called upon to shoulder some of that load, I'm sure. Not that Prust will ever turn down a dance. It's not in his nature. I think it also reinforces that Rupper just isn't up to it and has more value than that come playoffs...as outlined by Punxrocknyc19's post.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Prust and Rupp rested down the stretch and more ice time given to Scott and maybe Bickel, both as Fs. 8 and 71 will be much more important in the POs than having meaningless fights for the remainder of the season.
