Special Trade Deadline Edition!

Because why the hell not?

Good:

HODGSON!
Managing to get a first rounder for Goose
Darth Regier

Bad:

Kassian a casualty of the Hodgson deal
Having to wait until the end of the deadline for all of this

Ugly:

*crickets*

Real good start. Made a move for the future in the first rounder, plus one that benefits the team now and in the future in Hodgson. The roster still has some work to do in the off-season, but that was a great start.

Regier is part of the solution. I won't say I wasn't worried, but I'm sure as hell glad I kept faith.

Personally, I never was sold on Kassian like so many others around here, but I was willing to trust the consensus that his skill would emerge. Hodgson looks legit (haven't seen much of him) and hopefully he'll take some of the pressure off of Roy.

Overall, gives me a reason to keep watching the Sabres this season.

Good - Getting a super talented young center, that hopefully continues to get better instead of doing what most Sabre prospects do......
Another 1st Round Pick, always good.
Getting rid of MAG, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Bad - The Sabres got a lot wimpier, big tough teams will own us.

Ugly - Losing Kassian sucks, I had high hopes for him.

G:
Turning Goose into a 1st when EVERYONE said it couldn't be done.
Completely bending Vancouver over. No way did I ever expect the Hodgson deal. Total steal.

B:
Roy still on the roster.

U:
Nada.

Good:
Getting Hodgson
Adding a 1st rounder
Gragnani gone
Darth Regier...He did some magic today.

Bad:
Goose gone
Kassian gone
Boyes still on the roster. Too bad they couldn't flip him and somehow get a half decent 4th line center back in another deal.

Ugly:
Some of the postings in the trade deadline thread before the Gaustad deal was announced.

Really, really G: Going into next year with Hodgson, two firsts, and two seconds. Good things could be coming quickly.

[VAN/BUF] VAN deals Cody Hodgson & Alex Sulzer to BUF for Zach Kassian & M-A Gragnani

G- Those two trades

B- Who is going to fight?

U-Nothing?

My problem continues to be execution. We've been here before with DR. He has good instincts when it comes to young talent, but we haven't seen his youth develop into a winning core. Being a prospect site, we tend to LOVE moves that involve high-end youth - so there is some bias.

Good:
Getting Hodgson to address the need at C
Getting a 1st in the Gaustad deal
Making the team better in the short and long term

Bad:
Kicking the tires on moving Roy and it not happening
Not moving Boyes

Ugly:
My productivity at work today

This team will now be paper soft until July for sure. That's the one downfall.

This would be mitigated IF Foligno is ready (Tropp will have to suffice for now, but we need jam higher up the lineup).

You've got a beauty in Hodgson. Most Canucks fans are in shock. I guess Gillis is seeing our window of opportunity disappearing and he's planning for now and is willing to give up some of our future. I just hope the trade ends up even because, on the face of it, you guys have trumped us.

As I said in the other thread, I'm not going to concern with myself about the difference between "very very very soft" (now) and "very very soft" (before). Toughness definitely needs to be acquired in the offseason to supplement the inevitable arrivals of McNabb, Foligno, and Tropp.

I put that on Ruff. With Regier's trades to get RR and CE, coupled with today's deals, I don't mind him being around. Ruff, on the other hand, sticks out like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree.
