Why would Nail or Grigorenko want to work for a guy like him who has already ruined three Euro lottery picks?

Don't want a 65 point player for 7.8

Rather sign Parise to a retirement deal for a ~7 mil cap hit. Better overall player, better fit, costs no assets.

Rick Nash is one unhappy camper. I feel bad for the guy.

There is no doubt that Glen Sather lusted to bring Rick Nash to New York, but when the Rangers’ general manager stuck to his guns in resisting Columbus’ demands that the package in return would have to include either Ryan McDonagh or Michael Del Zotto plus either Derek Stepan or Carl Hagelin, plus Boston College winger Chris Kreider and Brandon Dubinsky, talks that went to the wire on Monday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline ultimately went nowhere.

Columbus GM Scott Howson rejected what is believed a Rangers' final offer of Dubinsky, 21-year-old defenseman Tim Erixon, 2011 first-rounder J.T. Miller, 2010 second-rounder Christian Thomas and a first-round selection in this June's Entry Draft.

So, to clarify, Howson's demands were:

- one of McD/MDZ
- one of Stepan/Hagelin
- Kreider
- Dubi

At the end, we finally ponied up and offered:

- Dubi
- Erixon
- Miller
- Thomas
- 1st round pick

I don't know if I'm more stunned at Howson's demand or that he turned down our last offer.

Yeah, go **** yourself, Howson. I am MORE than completely okay with how this went down.

I'm glad Howson rejected that offer. Overpayment imo.

if that is true then he will be fired before the draft....That's essentially 3 first rounders, one of the top-3 snipers in the CHL and a very good two-way forward under contract

Wow. I doubt they get a better offer than that in the future.

Yea Howson I'm stunned Sather didn't give you McDonagh, Stepan, Dubi, and Kreider, what a joke. Hopefully this ends by draft night.

Agreed. Essentially 3 first round picks (2012, 2011 selection JT Miller and Tim Erixon) and 2 second round picks (Thomas and Dubi)? This offer better be off the table come June.

God, I would've been livid if this went through!

Good on Howson for not budging from what he believes is fair value for his captain and franchise player. If Nash does end up getting moved, let's see what kind of deal he gets in June, could be much better. Plus that package doesn't solve CBJ's biggest need, goaltending.

Bad on Glen for offering that package in the first place.

If the offer that the Post is reporting is true, Howson is a ****ing idiot. I for one am pleased as punch that he rejected it though.

That is the type of deal (in terms of quality of prospects and how many of them) we will need to do in the future for that last piece in our offense. However, it won't be for Nash now.

Although I certainly hope and am skeptical that it'll take THAT much to get someone like Ryan for example. But it may.

Edit: До свидания Nash!

Ты идиот Howson!

The Rangers leaked that to Brooks to prove rub the mistake in Howson's face. Throw your captain and franchise player under the bus, then have the Rangers pour salt in the wound by showing your fan base what you passed up. Ouch.

Hard to say. Only one roster player off a EC-leading team, and replacing him with Nash....Plus you keep Kreider and Macilrath.

This. If we really want Nash, let the bitter divorce between Howson and Nash that is about to ensue lower his value, then pick him up in the off season. Personally, I'd pursue Parise first, though.

And that's why they should have accepted Nashville's offer. Unless Nash didn't want to go there, which I doubt considering it's a winning team and he wants to win right?

Or its more spew coming out of the mouths of reporters or... Sather is bluffing with his leaked info. Making it look like he did all that he could do to get Nash.

It is and the most significant asset is capspace. All along I was wondering just how many teams could put together a package like that and what time could put a package together like that that Nash would agree to go to.

Yep. Or they told Brooks they offered more than they actually did. Either way basically an F you to Howsen.

I'm going to make a wild prediction that we trade for Ovechkin this offseason.
