I think I might have been okay with that. Did not want to give up McD, MDZ or Kreider. Even so--it's a little more than I would have offered so I don't mind that it didn't get done either.

Congrats by the way to Dubinsky--he dodged a bullet.

Whether in the short term we fall short because of offense--the Rangers have kept their core intact and they hang on to some fine prospects who should help them in the future. Between Lundqvist and our young D we should be a team to be reckoned with at least for a while. Before the season a lot of us were thinking--not this year but 12-13 was when everything was most likely to gel. We should be a better team next year--so see how far this team can take it and who knows they might surprise us even more.

Everybody's ripping Howson for not taking the offer because it was so massive. Well if it's such a no-brainer, that means Sather's giving up too much.

I would have freaked if he sent all that for Nash. Miller might be a better prospect than Kreider.

It's going to be a fun couple of months in Ohio.

97.1 saying that Nash told owners that management needed to be changed. (gm/president) They said No, so he requested trade. #cbj

If the rumored package was actually offered by Slats, I think I could have lived with it had it gone through, adding Nash without losing Kreider would have been a victory in itself.
That being said I can live without getting Nash, but I am still a little worried about scoring in the playoffs with our current roster. Only time will tell.

It does when that cap hit belongs to a generational talent.

I was defending and defending and defending the guy, but Howson really ****ed up their revealing that information on Nash. Everyone could probably figure it out, but there was no proof. Now, it's all over.

Not the strongest play by Howson there, first time I've doubted his job security.

Also HIGHLY agree with this:

What's the over/under on whether or not Nash decides to play the rest of the season?

Howson could be this years' Nieuwendyk...except he will still get something for Nash in the end.

Can't imagine he won't play. He'll just go through the motions the final 20 games.

Well, if Columbus ownership doesn't think that management needs changing... I think we've found someone dumber than Howson.

The McConnell family needs to shoulder some blame for how that franchise has turned out. They hire bad GMs, and now they don't want to fire one who has done a poor job thus far.

The Rangers can't offer more than that.

If Howson had any vision,he would've taken that trade.

Erixon has the potential to be just as good as the Rangers other top D

Miller will be a top six forward on a good team and top nine forward on a very good championship caliber team

Thomas is a smaller player. Ton of skill. Great shot.

Hagelin was in Michigan last season. Stepan and McD were in college two years ago.

It won't be very long before Erixon,Miller and Thomas will be NHL players.

He has no vision on how to build a team.

He has so much money tied up in D. Tyutin,Wisniewski,Methot and Johnson. More than $17M tied up in those 4 players.

Darren Dreger reported on TSN the Rangers are happy the trade didn't go down.

Im not ripping Howson for the scale of the deal. I'm ripping him because it looks like the best offer he had for a guy who didnt want to play for him.

Sather offered a lot...more than I would have, but even if Sather makes that trade, he can still field an elite team with added elite player.

If Howson doesnt make that trade, he doesnt have cap space, he doesnt double his prospect pool and he doesnt add quality to his franchise. He also doesnt add a 1st rounder for an already deep draft.

If he trades Nash on Draft Day, I'll bet he never sees an offer as close to what Sather allegedly offered him today

Of course the Rangers are happy. It's been only 2 hours, and Nash's trade value has already dropped. If they can't find a better option, re-explore Nash during the summer. Personally, I think there will be better options out there due to his cap hit.

Sometimes they say the best trades are the ones you dont make.

If Daddy Larry ruled in Smith's favor, Patrick doesnt net Larmer, Weight doesnt add Tikkanen, Amonte doesnt add Matteau and Noonan, and Beezer doesnt add Lidster.

Thats my opinion of course...Are te Rangers Cup winners minus those guys and Lindros?

Probably not.

For all the things handcuffing Howson (teams with the assets to get a deal done, teams with the capspace, teams that Nash would agree to go to) it would be a decent return.

Roflmao at Brooks reports of CBJ asking price.

I called it ! (I can't search but in a post below that starts "I bet five bucks"...) If we didn't get Nash, Brooks would within 24hrs report a fantasy asking price from CBJ fed to him by Slats.

Slats always does this to clear his back. Feeds Brooks with after the fact BS. It's sooo funny because it's so obvious this time.

Priceless. Hohohihi what a tool Brooks is.

Howson is an idiot. He wanted to fix ten years of bad drafting and free agents with one deal. Sather offered him a four year fix and he refused. Looking for 99 weeks on the Government dole, I guess.

I would agree if he was still putting up 50+ goals and 100+ points but after 85 points last season and he's on pace for under 70 this season I would be a little leery of adding that cap hit.

Howson himself admitted in his interview on TradeCentre that the price to land Nash was "extremely high".
