Good:
-Getting excellent return for Goose. This looks like it will be a pretty low 1st, but a fantastic return in the face of about 50,000 opinions that there was no way that anyone would pay a price that high.
-Hodgson helps now and is a great prospect.
-I wasn't sold on Kassian

Bad:
-This team went from soft to softer. Toilet paper companies would pay good money for adjectives that adequately describe how soft we are.
-Not sold on Tropp or Foligno hitting top 6 potential.
-The center position is still an issue
-Size is still an issue
-Toughness is still an issue
-Not sure if DR recognizes that the above three bullets are still an issue

Indifferent:
-Grags for Sulzer. Sulzer sounds like he's a proven no-impact. Grags stunk it up here, but will probably do OK as a depth D on a team with a more talented offense.

Ugly:
-If Grags gets his name on the cup this season.

Dealing Kassian only further affirms management's belief that Stafford can be something. Do you think this season is just aberrant for Stafford or that it will be his new norm and we wasted 16 million on him? Also, I guess we start looking for wingers with some scoring and toughness for this off-season. Any suggestions?

I'm not buying this team got softer. Bring up McNabb and Foligno. **** just got real.

And Kassian in the top 6, I'm not so sure he would've made it.

Look no further than in Rochester - Foligno.

Good
Getting 1st for Gaustad
Filling center void with Hodgson from strength on wing
Moving Gragnani

Bad
Losing all the grit in forward ranks

Ugly
Howson admitting that Nash requested a trade over a month ago but that he won't trade him unless he gets cornerstone pieces back for the Jackets. Nash never leaked it to the media so its kind of classless for Howson to announce it at his press conference as it sure doesn't improve his negotiating position in the off-season

Exactly we no longer have to desperately seek a #1 centre in the draft or the offseason. Although it wouldn't hurt (because we can then ship out Roy), its not a gaping hole, 3rd and 4th line centres are easier to come by than a top 6

G:
- Getting a 1st for Goose? Awesome
- Hodgson, kid looks like he could be our answer at center, real excited to watch him play/learn more about him
-Being excited about this team again (despite the work that still needs to be done)
- Going into the offeason with 4 picks in the first two rounds
- We have the assets to move up in the draft if need be, it'll be nice not to worry about our draft position and enjoy watching this team just play from here on out. I think Hodgson alleviates a lot of the worry about getting a stud center with our 1st pick

B:
- Sorry to see Kassian go, will miss his grit and physical play (although those things seemed to be lacking recently)
- Thought we'd be able to move Boyes for something, guess there wasn't much interest.
- Was hoping for a bigger shakeup in the core and with all the Roy talk figured he might be moved, but I think Goose going does send a message to these guys.

U:
- Losing our +/- leader...

I think it probably buys Drew another full season. Beyond that there are probably no guarantees. I think they'd be wise to sign a 2nd/3rd line tweener RW in case Drew can't find the net again next year, and I think Stempniak may be a decent option--Lee also brings other elements to his game, too.

But they are going to have to find size somewhere. With assets like Roy, two 1sts, and two 2nds likely to be in the top-half of the round, they can make a move for skilled size.

I can totally understand keeping Boyes for his ability to fill in at center vs getting a 4th or 5th round pick.
And if they TRULY believe they can make the playoffs, Boyes staying helps more than a pick.

G:

Hodgson...Kid is going to be great. Traded from a strength to get a weakness

Goose for a first

Darcy blowing the minds of all his naysayers (myself included, ask the guys in the chat)

Over 4 million in cap space....that means we can bring up whoever we want from Rochester to finish off the year, without worrying about the cap....

We didn't have to pay sombody to take MAG off our hands

B:

Losing Kassian and Goose without adding grit

Im afraid for our players health when we play gritty teams

U:

Darcy Trololololing us fans with the last second buzzer beater trades

Also some insight as to why Boyes is still here. In his press conference darcy was asked about Boyes, and why he didn't try and trade him. He said that he had to keep Boyes because since he traded away Gaustad and McCormick isn't really close to being ready, he needed him to fill in the hole left by the two of them....He DID have calls inquiring about Boyes' availability.

I agree that it's a different issue. The kid is playing well against teams that are focused on containing the Sedins and Kesler. I'm thrilled to have him, but the Sabres are still incredibly weak at center.

I think the Gauted deal was very good. A 20th-30th pick overall for a 4th and another month of hockey from Goose is a GREAT move.

But.

Hate the Hodgkin/Sulzer deal. Yay Gragnani is gone, I guess. But they are bringing in 2 more Regier cookie cutter non-hitting/minimal aggression players.

Win a round of hockey playing a non-hitting style and I'll change my tune. Win a Cup playing that way? I doubt it will ever happen.

They just traded away a great player in Kassian for another Leino/Boyes type guy.

Just heard about both trades:

Good:
- Long-term improvement: Top 2 center secured, 1st round pick for a guy who was likely gone (and who could still resign if both parties want that)
- Short-term improvement from the Hodgson trade: No more Grags, I'll take Hodgson in this line-up over Kassian right now

Bad:
- Losing a likable player like Gaustad
- Losing two big bodies from the organization. This team is going to be tiny for a while but there's every hope they can get some beef in the line-up next season.
- Perhaps not dumping someone else for picks

I think there's genuine reason to be excited about this team's future as early as next season, but even more so the year after
