Gaustad will also meet the team in Carolina.

Who give a crap about "over payment?" We got alot better with these trades and it will be fun watching us go far in the playoffs! I have no problem with any of these trades! Go Polie and Preds!

that was the other team rumored to be bidding. they had already spent their first, we had already spent our 2nd.

Im guessing they were offering 2nd + while we offered 1st -.

Yeah, weak draft or not. I'm willing to bet we could have gotten him for cheaper.
I've read they were in a bidding war with DRW, which might be why the price was so steep.

I like Gaustad, but I have a terrible feeling that the 1st we gave up will end up being a lot better than Gaustad. Maybe i'm having flashbacks to my Atlanta days.

Gaustad has been my favorite player on the Sabres since he was called up for the 05/06 campaign. He was on the ice when we knocked Ottawa out of the playoffs in overtime that year. Although he has little to no offensive talent, he is a true heart and soul guy who bleeds for his team and does all the little things you want. You will love him, even if the price was steep. Instant fan favorite.

It's all a crapshoot anyway. We needed a piece to our potentially-elite puzzle and we got it. We don't need a first rounder every season if we're truly going to spend money to offset certain things.

Wonder if they would've taken Watson for Guaustad?

I would actually rather have given up the first rather than watson. I still think he's going to be good.

Most of the rumors had Buffalo insisting on a 1st for Gaustad.

The total cost for this last few weeks until the deadline
Smithson, Geoffrion, Slaney, 2012 1st round pick, 2012 2nd round pick, 2013 2nd round pick

The payoff?
Gill, AK46, Gaustad, Buffalo's 4th round pick next year, and a 6th round pick this season from Florida.

You think we overpaid with a late 1st, but would have offered up a former mid-1st that seems to be developing into a solid, young two-way forward? What rabbit are you expecting Poile could have pulled out of the hat at 20-26?

I think they'll both get a good laugh out of it.

I guess I'm not as high on Watson as you. Would have rather re-picked in the 1st. All hypothetical at this point...

It's all moot until he gets to a professional level. Lots of guys excel in juniors and can't seem to make the jump. At this point, he seems to be developing as well as your average mid-round 1st, if not better, but who really knows...

I'm pulling for your team to win a Cup. Goose deserves one.

Good trade for both teams and where they are currently at.

Can't say I'm happy with the price but I did want Gaustad. Obviously Poile and co also thought that he was needed to make a run. My biggest gripe with it is I don't see him re-signing at all. I think he is purely a rental as it is rumored he wants 3 million per his next deal. On the other hand I could actually see Gill and AK46 re-signing; especially Gill

As Poile said, let's see how they play first before we talk about signing them.

All of the same things are now being said about Watson that were said about Wilson when he didn't immediately dominate the NHL the year he was drafted. Took a while for Wilson to mature and become what he was this season, and I expect Watson to be very similar.

I like it. We got bigger, more physical. Picked up O and D forwards. They don't afraid to go to the net, take a hit, give a hit, block a shot.

Gill- I think we have seen enough. I think we will for sure want to re-sign him if he's willing to accept a reasonable number

AK46- I agree see what he plays like first but with his brother here if he plays well and enjoys Nashville I could see us not necessarily getting a hometown discount but perhaps signing both for a little less than they would normally receive.

Gaustad- It doesn't matter how well he plays. If he wants 3 million per year no chance in hell he stays here.
