glad Ellington's gone but his contract was up at the end of the year would have preferred getting rid of a Tochkin. A useless contract that runs past this season.

Hopefully we can get Zack's brother next season to muck it up on the 4th line next year

Anyone else notice how miserable he sounded on the TSN interview? Does not seem excited to be coming here at all

Good trade for the Canucks. Very sound defensively. not expensive. Much better deal than getting Ott for Raymond as we get to keep Raymond.

Well he ****ing should be going from the worst team in the league to the (arguably) best.

Close friends of the Sedins apparently and that might help. Sami "the bull" is strictly a playoff rental pick up unless he is willing to sign here for peanuts next year.

Long as he is healthy, should help.

It's not that simple; he has a wife and kids in Columbus, and now faces the prospect of either separating from them for months, or forcing them (and more specifically the kids) to uproot and move to a new city.

And now he's going to have to play under a new set of rules that no one really knows and changes depending on the score of the game. And fans of other teams will hate him for no reason. I'd be a little bummed too I guess.

True. From a family perspective, being traded (no matter where the destination) is rough. From a hockey perspective, however, he should be ecstatic.

I could see Pahlsson in our plans beyond this season. He seemed like a logical target IMO because he's been one of the top pure defensive forwards in the NHL in recent years and will help ease the pressure off Malhotra on the 4th line.

If Pahlsson has a good playoff you look to retain him as a 4th line checker IMO. Would shelter the minutes for the 3rd line centre, allowing Schroeder to take a serious run at that roster spot.

He didn't sound disappointed about it, more like apprehensive about the practicalities of uprooting and playing in a distant city, away from his family, or uprooting them.

He's also a guy who has been plugging away in almost complete obscurity for the past years in Columbus, and even before that to an extent. He's coming to a market where he will be under a microscope. More than that, the guy has probably forgotten what it's even like to be on a cup contender, in the intensity of the playoffs. He'll come around to playing in Vancouver soon enough, but it's a lot to take in.

Good lord!

Näslund (Modo)
H. Sedin (Modo)
D. Sedin (Modo)

and now Samme Påhlsson, from (surprise, surprise) Modo too?!

What is this, Modo 2.0, or New Örnsköldsvik?!

I guess Samme grew up in Ånge, which is pretty close to Östersund -the home of Edler and right in between Östersund and Örnsköldsvik, so what you guys need now is Henke Lundqvist, from Åre, and all you'll hear from the locker room is the reminiscence of the old (and only) pizza parlor in Ö-vik.

At any rate, I'm about to rename Vancouver, one of the most beautiful city's in the world, to New Örnsköldsvik though.

Edler Actually played for Modo juniors a stint, so you can add him to the pack as well.

He'll be the fifth Modo product to suit up for the Canucks (Sedins, Näslund and Gradin).

Sami Pahlsson by the numbers:

Season QualComp Rank OZone Starts Corsi Teammate 1 Teammate 2
2011/12 3rd 32.2% -9.9 Derek Dorsett Antoine Vermette
2010/11 2nd 34.2% -6.7 Derek Dorsett Chris Clark
2009/10 1st 33.1% -8.3 Chris Clark Jason Chimera
2008/09 3rd 40.7% -10.1 Rob Niedermayer Travis Moen
2007/08 2nd 43.4% -7.8 Rob Niedermayer Travis Moen

Factoring in that he's played on worse teams the last three years, his results are remarkably consistent year by year. Doesn't seem to be any measurable drop off in his play over the last five seasons.

I like this trade, provided Pahlsson still has something in the tank. Our third line was a tweener line -- not really a checking line, not really a scoring line. With a more solid identity, guys like Hansen might start playing better, and concentrate on checking the other team's top lines. This will help Kesler's line during the playoffs. So, there could be lots of positive spinoffs from this trade. But, again, hopefully Pahlsson's still got something left, because he's been pretty invisible the last couple years.

Pretty sure we'll resign him for another year if he plays good. Ballard is as good as gone after the playoffs which gives us a bit a cap space. Space we don't need till the year after (Elder, Burrows, Higgins, etc). Also thats the time when some of our prospects (Sweatt/Rodin/Schreoder/Jensen?) might be ready.

Pahlsson is still an elite defensive player. Just don't expect a whole bunch of offense. Ideally, the drop in offense from Hodgson to Lapierre/Pahlsson/Malhotra will be made up by giving the 2nd line some softer matchups.

This trade is going under the radar

Having Pahlsson and Manny and Lappy out there to take all defensive and neutral zone FO's will allow Kesler and Sedin to take 100% offensive zone FO's

Hodgson had to be with Booth and Raymond because Kesler needed to take the hard minutes, with Pahlsson slotting in as 3C, we get a team that's even stronger in the middle now.

What we have here is a bigger, stronger 3C with cup winning experience and we get Kesler back. With Pahlsson taking all the tough minutes, Kesler can return to 40G form.

I actually expect some offense from him.

He has been able to chip in points , in past playoffs.

Come on Pahlsson, channel your 2007 form.

In the playoffs Pahlsson has gone deep in all but one playoff run with the teams he is on. He clearly isn't the sole reason, but he has a pedigree of competitiveness and success. I'm very happy about this particular move, even if it isn't giving us an offensive upside. The West will be won through a war of attrition most likely, and he's a guy you'd like to have on your side for that.

Just out of curiosity, if at foresight you know how much the asking price for Gaustad is, would you actually pay that upgrade premium (the 4th to a 1st) and get Gaustad, who is younger, bigger and more physical?
