Staubitz (if he can play)

Its a pretty good forward group imho. Get a top6 forward at the deadline if we are in the playoffs.

Gomez is gone to the AHL or Europe obviously. Bournival, Schultz, Gallagher, Kristo are the callups. Palushaj too if he manages to pull his head out of his behind. I could see Gallagher making a case to stay, especially if we have some injuries.
I don't hate this.
Patches-DD-Cole needs to be broken, makes the lineup all unbalanced. We need a bonafide tough minutes two-way line and we have the players for it, just need to actually put them together. Sadly Cunneyworth can't get his head out of his ass so we won't even try things for next year.

I think Bourque is a third liner/soft minutes player so we'll need an ES second line caliber player.

People will hate this but I'd try to buy low on Dustin Penner.
On ice teamshooting at 5.39% at 5on5 wich basically means the opposing goalie saves 94.6% of the shots the Kings take while he is on the ice. His personnal shooting% is 6.2 for a guy that is usually a 12%+ shooter, he plays pretty tough minutes and does pretty good in them. And as a bonus he'll be cheap due to his NHL.com numbers not looking good (his underlying numbers look just fine). He's due for some regression next year.

I'm just trying to think of a player that will replace Andrei Kostitsyn and I'm having a hard time.

What about if we draft high with grigs? or even forsberg? I think everyone needs to calm down a bit and see that we have some interesting options ahead. I think its safe to say the core of this team is solid + our 1st rounder this year. We have an elite goalie, and our prospect depth is at D. Theres a way to go before we can be a true contender (at least 1 elite forward, which we could get in grigs, but then again theres no guarantee), but I firmly believe that the team is going in the right direction, its just that the ship is doing a 180 at the moment so its not going anywhere.

Anyway, here's a bit of my lineup given our existing players and in the event we draft grigorenko (and he turns out to be the real deal right away a la other past high picks)

DD-Plekanec-Cole (DD and Plek can swap C, good for draws as well.)
Pacioretty-Grigorenko-Gionta (Grigs and Pac provide size for Gio, to make his life easier, could really dominate teams, especially if its used as a second line.)

This top6 has a nice balance of speed, skill, and size. DD was the casuality on C because grigorenko is the big centre we've been needing since what seems like forever, and Plekanec is a perfect 2nd line 2-way C. DD's excellent vision and natural talent will let him thrive anywhere, he's great at adapting and improving his horizons. Of course Grigs could also go on the Wing, and then there is Eller, who looks to be getting a bit more offensive in his game. It might turn out that one of these guys gets traded, too.)

As for the bottom 6, its hard to tell who will go where. I really want Gomez, Bourque, and Palushaj(from the bottom 6 anyway) gone. A mix of Moen, White, Leblanc, Eller, Geoffrion, Blunden, and maybe even Noke or Darche could be very effective.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
Bourque-Plecanec-Gionta
Grigorenko-Eller-Radulov
Moen-Konopka-Prust

Gorges-Subban
Emelin-Markov
Diaz-Beaulieu

Price
Budaj

Amazing offence, below average d unless Markov comes back strong. The defenceman free agents this year are quite bad..

I actually really like this team moving forward offensively and am confident in their potential. But just wanna ask you guys do you think we're overrating our own offense (included with our potential yakupov/grig/galchenyuk/forsberg pick if we take a forward prospect?). Im friends with a Devils and a Bruins fan and they seem to think I think too highly of my players but I just tell them our place in the standings doesnt tell the whole story.

Are we overrating the offense or are other fanbases underrating it?

Not much big names except Suter, we'll need to look for undervalued assets that brings in more than shiny stats sheet. If they can find a GM with a moneypuck approach, it's doable. Don't know if Garrisson will get overpaid for his fluky goal scoring, solid hard minutes eater. I'll need to look at the pending UFA list to see who else fits.

I'll assume that we draft third overall.

Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Forsberg - Eller - Geoffrion/Gallagher/Palushaj/Leblanc
Moen - White - A true big and nasty 4th liner for god sake

Markov - Emelin
Subban - Gorges
Diaz - Kaberle
Weber

We don't need to replace Kostitsyn, we need what Cammlleri was supposed to be for us when we signed him, a 30-40 goal scorer.

we need a real first line but you are absolutely right, bourque is replacing ak as our 2nd/3rd line player, we need to replace cammy on our top line...

for us to be successful, this is how we need our lineup next year to look like:

patches DD cole
top6winger pleks/ufa gionta
bourque eller yakupov/grigorenko/forsberg
white ufa(gaustad) geoffrion
toughguy darche

gorges subban
markov emelin
Bigmeandef diaz
weber st-denis

kaberle and gomez: disappear somehow, someway

I was definitely being over-dramatic after an underwhelming trade deadline. I agree with your post, but I personally would keep Bourque.

The future will be fine:

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Bourque - Eller - Gionta
UFA - Leblanc - Kristo
Geoffrion - White - Blunden

Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Subban
Kaberle - Staubitz

Price
Budaj

Trade Plekanec at the draft for a 1st round draft pick and an "A" prospect

Draft Forsberg and Gaunce

Build around a future of Tinordi, Beaulieu, Gallagher, Holland, Forsberg, Gaunce etc.

Yeah, I didn`t mean to single you out or anything, I just wanted a jumping point for my post. Bourque can stay in the short term, but they should see if there is some interest during the year next year. Either way we have a bit of a logjam in our FWD corps.

If ever assembled, that line would be terrible. Neither Gio or Bourque ever make a decent pass and Plekanec isn't creative enough to feed 2 unidimensional average wingers towards being a decent 2nd line.

I don't know what Gauthier had in mind in his presser when he talked about turning it around very quick (and I hope he's not gonna be given a chance to do it himself) but I really don't like what I foresee for next season tus far : Gio is declining, Bourque looks terrible, there is no top6 material ready to step up. We suck

I'm bored on this fine monday evening. Here it goes :

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Zach Parise ($7.000m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Erik Cole ($4.500m)
Max Pacioretty ($1.625m) / David Desharnais ($0.850m) / Brian Gionta ($5.000m)
Rene Bourque ($3.333m) / Lars Eller ($1.000m) / Louis Leblanc ($1.170m)
Travis Moen ($1.500m) / Paul Gaustad ($2.500m) / Ryan White ($0.600m)
/ / Cam Janssen ($0.525m)

DEFENSEMEN
Ryan Suter ($6.000m) / P.K. Subban ($3.750m)
Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Josh Gorges ($3.900m)
Alexei Emelin ($1.250m) / Raphael Diaz ($1.250m)
/ Matt Carkner ($0.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Peter Budaj ($1.150m) / Carey Price ($5.750m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,003,333; BONUSES: $300,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $296,667

Obviously, it's NEVER gonna happen, well it could. But that would be if every UFA was willing to sign with the Habs.

Also, I didn't include whoever the Habs draft this summer. If a player like Grigorenko or Galchenyuk would without a doubt be NHL ready. Also, if it is one of the two that they draft, one of Desharnais or Eller has to go.

My lines for next year:

Pacioretty - DD - Cole
Gallagher - Grigorenko - Bourque
Leblanc - Eller - Gionta
White - Geoffrion - Moen

Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Subban
Diaz - St-Denis

Price
Budaj

Plekanec will be traded for a big winger or a defenceman or draft picks. Ideally Bourque would move down in the lineup

With Kosti out we are lacking even more goal scoring power so we are ensured to grab our choice of forward at this draft.
