South of South Mountain Shortcut to Glendale????

I was told that there was a short cut to the west side. If you take the lower 202 freeway West, stay on it when it turns to Pecos Road, you can take that to 51st Avenue, then take 51st Ave north to the 10, basically going around South Mountain and bypassing downtown.

I figured i would experiment tonight and try that, however when I was on Pecos at around 30th avenue, the road just ends. You can go north into this housing development and big mess of side streets, but it doesn't bring you back out to Pecos on the other side.

I saw someone out side and asked how I could get back to Pecos and continue west, but they told me Pecos doesn't go farther west.

Has anyone heard of this short cut, does it really exist? I'm pretty sure 51st Avenue goes all the way down south, but not sure where it would meet up with Pecos or anything close there

All I can remember is that Riggs Road becomes 51st Ave through the Indian Reservation. Leave early if you try it...it's been years.
